Pa. Mom, Toddler In Stroller Killed By Train

Woman’s two young daughters manage to dart across tracks unharmed

DERRY, Pa. - A woman pushing a stroller across railroad tracks in western Pennsylvania was struck by a train and both she and her 2-year-old son were killed, police said.

The 37-year-old Derry mother and three of her children were returning from a shopping trip early Friday evening, authorities said. They said she was struggling to push the stroller across the tracks when she and her toddler son were hit by a Norfolk Southern train at about 5 p.m. Her two young daughters managed to dart across the tracks and were not injured.

The victims' names have not been released pending notification of relatives.

“Pa. Mom, Toddler In Stroller Killed By Train”

The train did not kill mom and the toddler, the suicidal and Homicidal mother killer herself and her toddler.

Or, mom was just really stupid.

Prayers. File away for when you think you’ve had a bad day. How horrible for the two surviving children to witness such tradgedy.

Too bad the kid had to suffer from mom’s terminal stupidity.

...

The crash happened less than 100 feet from where a 15-year-old was struck and killed by a train in July.

...

Was the rush to cross the TRACKS worth it?

It’s easy to get stroller wheels going four different directions. Add some rough ground and some panic ...

Man, how awful. Not only for the family but for the train crew.

Maybe, just maybe, the stroller’s wheels caught in the tracks and desperate, she died while trying to move it.

What she should have done was grab the toddler and run. It is a fact that rational thought is impossible when panicking. I bet she screamed at the other two kids to run.

I won’t jump to conclusions, like murder and suicide, without more information.

What a tragedy!

Stupid people should NOT be allowed to reproduce. This lady was stupid. I feel terrible for the two year old who was killed and the two other children left without their mother due to pure stupidity.

Since this is not the only fatality here, is ther some reason people cannot see or hear a train coming?

A very tragic case, but totally preventable.

Slow down people, life is too precious.

There HAD to be warning signs, flashing lights, bells ringing or even drop-down barriers blocking traffic. If any of these were inoperative, hang the railroad, otherwise I wonder if mom had on Walkman phones or otherwise clueless. Sad as it is, this appears to be a self-inflicted tragedy.

My boy is a RR engineer and says there is ALWAYS idiot who insists on trying to beat the train.

You see nothing idiotic about his comment-—when it is in regards to a mother and her child having been killed on train tracks?
I understand the “Darwin awards” nonsense on FreeRepublic, but there is nothing amusing, or slightly cute about a mother and her child killed.

I unsderstand your sensitivity, but, as the incident appears to have occurred, the mother is sadly and completely responsible for her own death and her child’s. It’s an important point.
