She HAS to resign first. Iran is such mess and getting messier, if she is still in SOS position when they test their first bomb, she is done. She will be under the bus and the fall guy.
Bingo. My thoughts exactly.
What do you think the Dem Debacle of 2010 will look like?
I suspect 2010 will not be a good year for dems; whether or not it's catastrophic remains to be seen. Keep in mind that only a small % of the porkulus money has gone out, and will be going out next year to buy votes, so that could mitigate things for dems, but if the economy continues to tank, it's going to be too little, too late.
What about House #s and Senate #s?
Too soon for me to speculate about the big picture. I think the Repubs will draw much closer in # in the house, but I don't think they get a majority. A few things I would bet on:
- If the "blue dogs" go along with Obamacare, they will virtually all be gone from the House.
- I think Specter will not be back. Right now I think Toomey takes his seat.
- Larry Elder would have had a shot at Boxer's seat, but Cornyn shot that down.
- Vitter will be safe in LA.
- I would not be surprised to see Chris Dodd and Harry Reid gone come 2011 (hopeful optimism, but not unrealistic).
What about Reid and Boxer?
I think it was going to happen with LBJ but he quit. Otherwise I don’t know.
She won’t announce until after the ‘10 elections, that much is certain.
I don't know of a case where a challenger won the nomination against a sitting president, but Ted Kennedy challenged Carter for the nomination in 1980. The resulting battle at least gets some credit for fracturing the democratic base and boosting Reagan. Which is why I seriously doubt she'll run.
I would not be surprised (and perfectly elated) to see Reid sending out resumes come January 2011.
