I'm watching a collection of old news footage from the JFK assassination on the History Channel right now, and was wondering if any Freepers have any theories about what really happened.
I figure with the great wealth of knowledge here on Free Republic, there's got to be some pretty good theories waiting to be shared.
That’s my take.
That's not true at all.
Most of the doctors never got a good look at the throat wound because they did a tracheotemy in the emergency room, through the existing wound, enlarging it. Anybody that indicated it might be a frontal shot was only speculating.
The medical evidence shows two shots from behind, one a head shot.
Perhaps, but that's not evidence.
That was FBI, and it wasn't really an interrogation. The FBI tried to keep occasional tabs on Oswald because he was a returned defector, who had just travelled to Mexico City trying to get into Cuba. They really didn't try all that hard to keep track of him, it was just a routine task for them.
Ruby knew his way around the police station and was known by many of the officers. He apparently ducked in when the officer guarding the ramp left his position for a moment.
It was all a matter of luck. Ruby was only in the area because he had other business, and he had no way to know Oswald was being transferred at that moment. The transfer had been delayed. At the last minute it was delayed again because Oswald wanted to go back for his sweater. Ruby couldn't have known that.
He walked in the basement and Oswald walked out the door at almost the same moment. Blind luck.
Actually, Oswald was a good shot and there was nothing wrong with the gun that kept it from shooting straight.
See post 2. The biggest non-mystery in the world. Oswald, whack-job and commie, who tried to assassinate General Edwin Walker earlier, got his chance to go down in history by killing JFK. He was thrilled with the attention, proud as a peacock, until a local well-known attention whore Jack Ruby spoiled his fun.
The gun was fine.
Oswald was a very good shot, a Marine sharpshooter and a better shot than 90% of the population, and the shot wasn’t especially difficult.
Despite all the nonsense you will read to the contrary, so many myths, so little time. Oswald, Oswald, Oswald, there is your answer, there is no other.
Oswald scored "Marksman" in the Marines. The highest of three classifications.
It wouldn't matter if the rifle was 100 years old and covered in rust (it was neither) if it could get those three shots off accurately. It could. It was tested after the shooting and was found to be accurate.
"It is a fact that Qswald didnt take the easy shot, when Kennedy was about 40 ft from him and moving toward him. He passed on that shot and later took the view through the trees when he was going away. Why is that?"
It wasn't necessarily the easy shot. When the limo was travelling past his position, at the time he did shoot, it was almost traveling directly away from him, with very little sideways motion in his field of view. That wasn't true earlier. We also can't put ourselves in his state of mind at that moment and know how he was feeling. Questions about why he didn't do one thing or another aren't really evidentiary questions.
"We will never know because Jack Ruby took care of that for us."
True. But regardless of how suspicious it seems at first glance, the evidence shows Ruby's crime was one of opportunity and luck. It couldn't have been planned in advance.
Look, you can throw all if that at me that you want to, the fact remains that LBJ was a slimy politician who wanted to be president in the worst possible way and removing Kennedy was the ONLY way he could ever accomplish that. After he became president he was in control of the investigation and the Warren Commission and everyone knew he couldn't be crossed. If you want to believe that fine but I am never going to believe it. Maybe it was best for the country to have a made up story rather than blame Cuba or the FBI or Russia. Oswald was convenient but I will never believe he acted alone.
I made a mistake, relying on memory. Oswald scored a "Sharpshooter" in the Marines, which is the middle category. You are correct that Expert is the top and Marksman the bottom.
In any case, he was not a bad shot.
"Look, you can throw all if that at me that you want to, the fact remains that LBJ was a slimy politician who wanted to be president in the worst possible way and removing Kennedy was the ONLY way he could ever accomplish that."
There is a long list of people that had a supposed motive to kill JFK. Motive does not make one guilty. To say that anyone was responsible, LBJ or anyone else, you have to be able to show an evidentiary tie between that person and the shooter. There is absolutely none to LBJ.
"After he became president he was in control of the investigation and the Warren Commission and everyone knew he couldn't be crossed."
In fact, he exerted no control over the Commission once it was formed. Warren, the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court would have tolerated none even if it had been attempted.
"If you want to believe that fine but I am never going to believe it."
It shouldn't be about what one wants to believe. It should be about following the evidence.
Give me a break......... LBJ had control over everything including how his biscuits and gravy were prepared in the WH kitchen.
I am not a lawyer and this is not a court room. This is FR and this is my opinion, if you don't believe it or like hearing me say it....... then don't listen!
That is correct.
"Give me a break......... LBJ had control over everything including how his biscuits and gravy were prepared in the WH kitchen."
The White House chef worked for him. The members of the Warren Commission did not.
"I am not a lawyer and this is not a court room. This is FR and this is my opinion, if you don't believe it or like hearing me say it....... then don't listen!"
Rational thinking is not limited to court rooms. A rational person follows facts and evidence, not presuppositions and biases.
LOL! Whatever.......
My Dad who is now gone spent yars reading every thing he could about it. I was only 3 at the time so only remember the clips on TV but he always said the same thing you did except added the “Unions” to it too.
I wonder if we will ever really know who killed Kennedy.
Yes. Lee Harvey Oswald.
It was a tragic nexus of an opportunity for Oswald to kill a president. Nothing more.
It was Colonel Mustard on the Grassy Knoll. He threw a candlestick that was subsequently airbrushed out of the Zapruder film.
Doesn't every two-bit, low-on-the-totem-pole, wanna-be famous 'mob' hitter take their dog along to silence another two-bit, low-on-the-totem-pole, wanna-be famous Marxist?
