SACRAMENTO, CA - Helen Hodges understood the need for a gas station clerk to write her identifying information on a sales receipt. She just wishes he had chosen a different phrase.
"It says 'black lady,' and I can understand that because I am a black lady," Hodges told News10. "But I don't get 'big fat.' I don't get that part."
Hodges, 31, said the offensive incident happened Thursday night after she was shorted $10 in a gas pump mix-up at a station on Marconi Avenue near the Capital City Freeway. When she returned to the station for a refund, a $10 bill was attached to a receipt with a handwritten notation "black lady big fat."
Hodges said it was her 6-year-old son who noticed the slight, which hurt even more. She tried contacting the manager, but is still waiting for an apology.
"The lesson they should learn is my money helps run that store," Hodges said. "And I won't be going back."

Gotta tell you, this lady isn’t even going after them like most “slighted” people would. She should be angry. And the fact that her little boy was the one that noticed it is salt in the wound.
The clerk or whoever wrote it should be jack-slapped and anybody who posts ignorant statements here should get the same. I’m all about slamming idiots, but the idiot here was the clerk.

I have to take her side on this. That’s just rude and impolite. He could have wrote the black lady in the blue shirt or something. I have no problem using race if you have to ID someone, but fat? That’s mean.
Since the article conspicuously does (not) indicate the person who wrote the note on the receipt was white.
And since it’s California.
This poster would really, really be curious as to the demographics of the attendant who wrote the note.

When she says she "Doesn't get the part...that part....I just don't get it" - concerning her being fat, she obviously is lying. She could have conceeded that she is fat, but that the attendant didn't have to use that description.
Next, I am suspicious of all of these stories concerning African Americans who have been "offended." Call me crazy, but there have been too many cry wolf incidents to disabuse me of that notion.

I have no doubt civil rights lawyers or other lawyers are already scrambling to sue ARCO and its parent company over this.
I would like to see a handwriting analysis of herself compared to the note. You can't fake your handwriting. Even if you think you can. The experts can tell.
If that goes to a dead end and she was listed as "fat" - she should get an apology, and a free tank of gas. That's it.

You could well be correct. If it’s true, then these people, who generally are uneducated, are being used. And as Walter Williams says, a few of them are waking up. Too few, IMHO.
