Very pretty tulips! Can you plant them somewhere you can see them from the sunroom? Those will be a pretty sight to see, true harbringers of spring!

We need to be planting bulbs where we took those yews out. Hmmm, add that to my list of things to do. Last year, during the first snow storm, I planted some allium bulbs I had just bought for 50% off at Westlake’s. Dang, if’n they all didn’t come up and bloom.

Hmmm....

I could put them in my herb bed I suppose. Or they could go on the north side of thesunroom. the coreopsis and coneflowers bloom there so I guess that would be enough sun for them.

So - In the vein of finding software made in the last decade, I have discovered that my old shoot-em-up games don’t work with Vista, and probably will not work with Windows 7.

What are the good games out there now? I liked Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament... Something I can play online with others would be good, but those I enjoyed playing even with bots... I generally like fantasy-based first-person shooter games with unrealistic weapons more than realistic combat games like Medal of Honor.

Just goes to show you, the borrowers got and then, as usual, returned it to the same place they borrowed it from. LSA will confirm it, I rarely if ever, throw anything out. There are a few items that the borrowers have tried out and then returned, my xtra asp for example. It’s for LSA’s Dad, I gave him a night stick a good long while ago and he finally laid it down someplace and the borrowers got it.

Old .22s cool - I’ve got my Dad’s 1906 Winchester .22 and Savage 1914. The Savage is pretty nice, takedown, tang safety, octagonal barrel, hammerless. The Winchester was definitely his ‘go to’ .22 rifle. He rarely shot .22 LR in it; how much power do you need to put a hole in a piece of paper? was the reason he shot shorts.

Of course the Chinese add genuine rust to their blades to give that extra bit of authenticity.

Heh...I’m still playing Nethack...so I probably shouldn’t be on the ask list....

Seems like there should be a way of running them in compatibility mode on Vista. Does it let you install them? If you right-click on the game icon and go to properties, is there a compatibility tab with possible adjustments?

Not that I know enough about games to really know if that’d make a difference...maybe someone else will speak up.

Thank you. I still don't know how I came into possession of the folding buffer tube before the Sig, but when I tried to find it, and couldn't, I wasn't too sure of my sanity. Of course, that's no excuse around here.

When I finally rediscovered it, I felt like I just found a winning lottery ticket. I also convinced myself that I had been reasonably sane all along.

I have the pieces to my dad's vey ancient Stevens Crackshot. His father bought it for him, used, in the early 30s. It's really worn out and rickety, and he started to fix it by building up some of the worn surfaces by welding. I still intend to complete the project some day.

Still my favorite time-waster, next to FR. I'm pleased to have the latest versions on both the PC and the Palm.

My final weekend installment of Gun Pron consists of a couple of small items I picked up this week. First is the R&R Scope Throw Lever , which fits certain brands of scopes, and an easy-to-find and easy-to-use control of the power setting ring.

Here it is on my Leupold CQT. It's big, and ugly, and works like a charm. Reach for the setting ring, and you'll know when you found it.

The other item is something new (at least for me) in hearing protection. It's the SensGard hearing protector, and it claims to offer up to a 31dB in noise reduction. It claims to work by redirecting most of the noise that hits your ears to the sealed chambers, where it cancels itself out. A safe portion of the sound is left to travel into your ear.

I got mine from Amazon.com after reading the reviews. I'll probably have a chance to test them this week, although I'll bring my regular ear muffs as backup.

Children’s used clothing and toy sale was this past weekend at church. It has taken many, many years for Not Valerie to learn the concept of “nothing electronic, nothing with parts, no used computer games.”

Unfortunately Sister Mary Hamburner bought Luke a copy of Sims Coaster...for Windows 95. But Dad gets to be the bad guy and tell him it won’t work on our system.

Sigh...

Oh, he’ll get over it. Besides it wasn’t as though he had to worry about it yesterday. His behavior in Children’s Church and follow up Children’s ministry class got him a day with no electronics and precious little else.

Fear the Wrath of Mom.

Ooops.

Baby girl has started into the “screechy” phase but she was good in church at least. I am looking forward to a year from now when she can get spanked for screeching like this :)

Luke’s never a behavior problem in school or other places where there’s a clear line of authority. He’s comfortable at church and assumed there were no consequences.

Mom has corrected his misperceptions.

The good thing with him is that we can explain why he needs to behave, and for the most part, he’ll get it.

If not, then he’ll ~really~ get it.

Also wanted to share that I've discovered the works of Joss Whedon.

I'd never heard of him until the writer's strike when two of my kids found his web hit Dr. Horrible's Sing-along blog with Neal Patrick Harris starring as Dr. Horrible and Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer. I watched it and though it was brilliant and very funny.

We then moved on to watch what was hailed as one of the best sci-fi series ever (all 11 or so episodes of it) Firefly, which also starred Nathan Fillion as Captain Mal Reynolds.

I just found out that Whedon has a new show out on Fox called Dollhouse. We started watching it Friday and it looks pretty interesting so far.
