Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Good Morning ALL - so does the ‘flying squirrel’ mascot wears an leather flying helmet with goggles?
“In the lane snow is glistenin”....
Come on double digits, well, high singles?
Aren’t they predicting double-digit minuses for this week?
No ASP, but the Ely "plinker" .17HM2 is definitely cheaper than other brands, and rates higher. Ely match-grade ammo is expensive, but nobody makes "match grade" for that caliber. Satisfied customers say a .22 kills squirrels, but the .17 disintegrates them.
Well, I think a couple of the weatherwonders are. Just got back inside, we were clearing off the vehicles. Powdery snow cleans off easily.
Those Berettas always had a good feel to them, never had one but they do fit the hand nicely. That was a handy fix you made on with the old sig parts. Kudos.

Can I just barrel swap my 10-22 from .22 to .17 an back again ?
I think so.....not sure.
I'm not sure, since I never owned a 10-22 (and I understand they're cheapening them up), but it seems reasonable. The .17HM2 is just a .22lr necked down to .17. On the CZ bolt actions, the only difference is in the barrel, they use the same magazines. For a 10-22, it may depend on where the feed ramp is. I'd look at rimfirecentral for an answer, but I'm headed to the EBR store right now.
EBR’n store open on a Sunday ?!?
You live in Heaven now don’t ya...:o)
Same here. Just finished clearing 3 inches of powder off the front stoop and driveway.
Smeagol and Deagol have just found a Ring on TNT!
You live in Heaven now dont ya...:o)
I think it's part of the changing buying habits of the shooting public, and therefore of the stores that sell guns. 90% of the inventory of a guns-only store are EBRs in 5.56 and 7.62mm. Handguns are 90% major-caliber or 9mm. Furniture is mostly black plastic. The other 10% are hunting/plinking/collecting traditional items. Ratios are reversed at "sporting" places like Cabela's, Gander Mountain, or other stores that also cater to fishing, camping, boating, archery, etc.
I've been stopping by Gander Mountain to buy MTM dry boxes for use as ammo cans, now that the government destroys ammo cans rather than sell them for surplus. They sell the smallest model that I can fill with ammo, and still (barely) lift. Their store is 10% EBR, but it was where I got the CZ452 in .17cal.
I was in the neighborhood yesterday, so I stopped in to buy another plastic box. With the way I buy ammo that I simply must have, it's always good to have a couple of empty boxes at home at all times.
They replaced my CZ452 with another one, this time in .22WMR. It was the "varmint" model, and the walnut was just as handsome as on my 452. It was like leaving an animal shelter where that one puppy or kitten was trying to get you to take him home with you.
I left with just another plastic box, but I still have that image in my head.
ROTFLMAO !! That was a funny analogy !
DOD shreds their ammo cans now ?!?!?! Dang ! I have a good supply of 20mm, 30 and 50 cal and 10 inch fuse cans etc.....they used to beg us to take em home as there were pads full of pallets of such empties ! New used once and in great condition. I store my bulk case lots in em after I desiccate and seal em in food saver bags.
I have a collection of pelican suitcases also for my gear. They protect long term gear from all sorts of environmental and vermin etc ....
... The food saver systems are great for storing ammo. I also use an old chest type freezer for ammo that I have no ammo cans left for . The freezer is unplugged with the ammo stacked in it after vacuum process of the food saver bags. Temperature stable and good place to keep it.
Poor puppies........LMAO !!
Thanks for the giggle !
I think they just squash them flat, and sell for scrap. The government was stopped from destroying empty brass (I don't know if they're selling it again), but other stuff has to be demilled per UN "trade in small arms" decree. The steel ammo cans out there now are the real "bottom of the barrel" stuff that nobody would take before. Just rusty, missing gaskets, etc. They should have been scrapped a long time ago.
The State Department has been hitting online gun-related sites that sell parts, demanding they get ITAR licenses because they deal in "small arms". The guy who sold me the threaded adapter to use a real M16 flsh hider on the M4-22 took down his web site, rather than do their paperwork. They have no real authority to demand this, but who wants to be on (another) sh1t list of The One?
I guess the State Department is just trying to do what BATFE can't. Once they can claim control over your part of the "small arms trade", they can some day just say, "the UN ordered us to close you down in the name of world peace".
It has been snowing here,CONTINUALLY, since late Friday night! It hasn't been heavy, but over the last 48 hours, we've gotten about 8" more snow!
The UN strives for peace yet profits only on war / conflict etc ......time for UN and those that keep em in business to go for good !
Has the legal sales web sites / ITAR been challenged at the supreme court yet ?
This hasn't even appeared on radar screens yet. The planetary bureaucracy is pushing this as something that is above any national law or sovereignty, just like ICC or global warming. When push comes to shove, or government will either go along, willingly or not, or say "you and whose army?". At that time, the American people will have some say in it, one way or another.
My uncle has one just like that. Nice little gun. I’m sure you can still get mags for it. Seems like I found one for him in a gunsmith catalog a couple years ago.
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. And welcome to the Hobbit Hole.
I heard about them doing that. At the last local gun show (you’ve probably been to the same one— it travels the state like The Best Circus Ever) I picked up two more M2 cans in really good shape. The last three of those shows I was noticing this particular dealer who has them (at least up through this last show, in December) for $8.00, two for $15.00. He has/had bigger ones (20mm?) for more and smaller (7.62?) for less, and enough of a range of conditions that I was able to pick ‘em with minimal dingage.
Next one’s in February. I may pick up a couple-six more “just cuz”, even though I now have one extra now.
