Which "Isms" Work?
myself ^ | 9/ 7/09 | A Navy Vet

"Ism's" are the bottom line within our conversations. Whether it be capitalism, socialism, communism, totalitarianism or Marxism. Some are similar, others are opposites.

"Ism's" are what defines us as political creatures.

The point of this article is WHICH "ism" is most beneficial to mankind. Personally, I believe capitalism is and has been most beneficial. But then, many believe after this financial melt-down socialism/Marxism may provide for the betterment of the majority.

That brings up another question: Why should any "ism" provide a better outcome for the societal contract?

Why should any ideology, theology, philosophy determine what is best for the majority of citizens for a mutually agreed contract? WHY? And for what reason?

Can you say in so many words? I can. I await your answer.

Individualism always works. Never count on a nanny state for your survival or the survival of your family.

While you think about all the "isms", and their affect on mankind, let me just say this: Capitalism, which includes the aspect of "free enterprise", has ALWAYS been the driving force behind invention and growth for mankind.

There was a time that primitive peoples exchanged animal hides for other goods and services. From there we built civilization.

So now we have leaders who say "no more". We will take from the peoples who produce to give to those who don't produce, because we are "compassionate". They say we must destroy a system that has worked for eons, because some few don't have the same amount of goods.

What say you? I say, wrong. If someone doesn't want to produce, let them go the way of the Neanderthals. If they won't contribute to our societal compact,...good bye...hope you have a better life in the after life.

Rule of law.

"What social contract?"

That's a joke, right? The "social contract" is called the United States Constitution.

“societal compact”

I see, but I think it goes to human nature (natural law) and not just a society.

I don’t believe in magical contracts, however. Just cuz I’m born in your vicinity does not mean I entered into a contract with you—I certainly can’t sign any contract with my stubby little infant fingers.

I’m beginning to think freedom has to be forced on humanity—they keep defaulting to slavery, even when they are presently free. A very odd thing to witness.

So, if what’s best for them is their freedom I would think a system based on individual freedom is one worth ‘enforcing’.

Once you agree to live within a Nation, you have to adhere to their societal compact - called laws and legislation and mores. You CAN always move elsewhere if you don't like that particular societal compact. Think Switzerland, Cayman Islands, Costa Rico, shall I name more you can move to?

Not sure I can argue that point.

Thanks for making my point.

The only important difference between Nazi-ism, Fascism,
Communism, Socialism and Liberalism is the spelling, and
that the last group hasn’t got the brains to figure it
out.

All right, we’re splitting hairs here.

I wasn’t being contentious, by the way.

"No “isms”. Freedom. Rule of law."

I understand your point, but our Country is now about "isms", as much as you and I would like not, it is.

So, MY "ism" is CAPITALISM!/FREE ENTERPRISEism. That is my position. Those "isms" built this nation; it helped other nations towards freedom; it gave the world opportunity; it gave us all the chance to succeed.

I cannot understand ANYONE who believes the USA has been a bad influence. Our politicians have definitely made mistakes, but the intent has always been to spread LIBERTY and OPPORTUNITY.

The pr*cks in the obambi admin who are looking to hang the CIA spooks for so-called BS torture of al-Queda, are going to cause you and/yours to die badly. Watch!

Yeah, okay, I got off topic. But just wait...there will be another large attack since the sweethearts of the Obambi admin are destroying our clandestine abilities. Stupid is as stupid does. Wanna place a bet? And I'm just a simple aviation sailor.

By all means, let us discuss the latest idiots on TV. The Girlies of Big Brother dipsh&ts are so very much more important than my question here.

BIG BROTHERism TV is SO important as compared to our Constitutional future (can you actually read that word that starts with a "C"?). Yeah, let's all watch a bunch of loser pr&cks on some stupid TV show and hail them as our cultural equals.

I can't believe you idiots are more concerned about such morons, while your freedoms quickly erode. You people are f&cking idiots! No wonder our societal compact is so quickly wasting away. The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Big Brother, Swapping Wives, etc. on which The Soup makes fun of weekly, are all you care about.

Hmmmm, some stupid ignorant ill-informed idiot is SO special on some idiot TV program? You people who adore such are ignorant a&&holes who deserve your low-life trailor trash existence! Watch out for your old rusty cars that could fall off their blocks and injure your worthless butts. Eat poop and live.

Freedom and rule of law, translated into economics, is capitalism/free enterprise-ism.

So I think we’re in agreement.

The CIA nonsense is two-fold in purpose, I think. One, they’ll try to salt the institution with their own people as they “reform” the leadership. And secondly, its a dandy distraction from their other debacles and embarrassments. I’ve been complaining for a decade about the politicization of CIA, and its only going to get way way worse, I think, if O gets his chance.

Ok, there are certain tru-isms in life that are good, healthy and bring the most prosperity and freedom; and the there are the others. When you are ready and figure which ones are those, get back to me and we can have a conversation of how many atoms are on a pinhead.

You can agree with your neighbor that you both can fly, but if you jump off a cliff together on that basis you both still go splat.

Agreement is not truth. Nothing about a contract ensures that anyone involved knows a damn thing about the actual causal facts they are discussing.

Ideas matter because the truth matters; no one gets away with denying reality in the slightest particular. There is knowledge, and some of it other men know and you do not.

There are any number of stupid ideologies that pass off error or wishes in the place of truth. But there is a place of truth that they are imitating. They are just doing it badly.
