Signs of Internet addiction, according to Hilarie Cash, executive director of the ReSTART center for Internet addiction near Seattle. Three of the following symptoms suggest abuse, five or more addiction:

-Increasing amounts of time spent on Internet

-Failed attempts to control behavior

-Heightened euphoria while on Internet

-Craving more time on Internet, restless when not there

-Neglecting family and friends

-Lying to others about use

-Internet interfering with job and school

“Back in the days of Windows 3.1, one could click onto a log” ....for time online...

You could actually do that with: control panel > double left click: network connections > double left click on the icon for your particular type of connection. It will give you a status/time connected/speed readout.

This is for XP, with cable or DSL. Some variation of that would work for a wireless connection, I’m sure. Of course with an “always on” type of connection, this will essentially be simply the amount of “on” time for your computer...including the 2 hours you spent on word proc or whatever. And, if you don’t shut down your computer overnight, well, that’s a different story.

I very rarely hit that top row! Maybe F2 during boot, sometimes the ALt-Prt Screen key (grabbing graphics) ... old school-keyboard user here - there are always Ctl- key combos for a variety of functions too ...
