I found this VIDEO hightly disturbing. They took a perfectly good car and DESTROYED its engine. How stupid is this. The parts could have been used on other engines. Apparently others have the same reaction judging by the YouTube comments. Also that car could have been sold to someone who needed cheap transportation. Now it is WORTHLESS.

That car appears to be in mint condition, both the body and the engine compartment. What a country it is with Rats in charge.

This is one of the dumbest things this country has ever come up with.

Cash for Clunkers is wasteful.

Cash for Clunkers does not recycle, but instead destroys parts which could be used again.

The people who came up with this stupid program deserve nothing but ridicule.

There is nothing good to come out of this at all, it wastes taxpayer dollars, it wastes property that still has value, it goes against the entire grain of recycling and using resources wisely, it actually wastes energy, as new cars must be produced for every car that is destroyed!

This makes me think, even if I was inclined to trade in any of my cars, I wouldn’t because I would hate to see anyone do this to any of them. I guess I get attached.

This is right out of FDR's playbook.

Glenn Beck touched on this a couple of days ago.

FDR ordered 10 million acres of cotton burned in order to drive up the price of cotton even though there were people who could barely afford clothes.

He ordered 6 million pigs killed in order to drive up the price of pork even though people could barely afford to buy food.

There are other examples I'm sure.

according to the rules of CARS the only thing that can be done to the trade in’s is to destroy them which is ashame but we all know who made the rules.

Come to think of it, why stop with cars??

Instead of giving our slightly used clothes to Goodwill, the Red Cross or the Salvation Army, let’s cut them up and throw them away (cutting them up insures that some enterprising person can’t salvage them from the trash and attempt to sell them for a profit... can’t have that!).

Then, the gov’t can send out lots and lots of Cash for Clothes checks!

That should stimulate all sorts of jobs in the otherwise defunct U.S. garment industry (money can only be spent on clothes that are made in the U.S. of course, good luck finding those!).

Moving on, let’s open every can of food in our pantries and grind-up the food in the diposal!

No need to donate to a soup kitchen or food bank!

The gov’t can send out Cash for Cans (cans of food that is).

That should really help the farmers (and fisherman if you include tuna and sardines!!). Presto, agriculture is back!

And of course, the next step would be houses. Instead of letting someone buy a foreclosed house for a low price that they can afford, let’s bulldoze every vacant house in America!

Then, the gov’t can send out Cash for Condos!

Imagine the construction jobs we’ll “create”!! (btw, they are already doing that with the $8K tax credit)

Wait, there’s more! How about tearing up all of the perfectly good roads!?! Rebuilding those could keep people employed for the next couple of decades!!

Wow, this is easy! Just destroy, destroy, destroy and pay for brand new stuff with other people’s money (or borrow more $$ from our friends in China).

So glad that someone as smart as Obama, Pelosi and Reid (and Frank, don’t forget Frank) finally figured out how to fix our economy.

We are in SUCH good hands.

Not.

What the bumer should have done is make them turn in Foreign Cars and require them to buy American Cars.

Reminds me of a spoiled brat kid in our neighborhood that purposely blew his engine so daddy would buy him a new vehicle. I laughed everytime I watched that boy walk to his part time job (to pay for another car) for the next year.

That was sickening. Those fools laughing at the end was also sickening.

Wasting a perfectly good car, I would have gladly paid the owner of that car $4500 for it.

Of course not all of the cars they get are like that, but anyone wanting to buy an older car in good shape ,say for $2,000 dollars now is not going to find one.

The price of used cars just went up to $4500 dollars minimum.

40000+ views, 400+ comments, all of them negative about the C4C program. This is beautiful. Like I was telling my wife today, the truth is that Americans are having to learn a valuable lesson the hard way. It’s a shame, but I suppose it has to happen every few generations. People forget. Those that lived through these kinds of things twice have mostly died off. Along comes a generation that either doesn’t know any better, or believes that this time it’s different. Well, we all get to take the ride now, and some of us get the consolation prize of being able to say “I told you so.” And hopefully we come out the other side a little wiser, even if we’ve all got sore keisters.

I wish I had a ‘clunker’ this good...

This is an outrageous scam.

Lower income folk - like me - will not be able to afford a decent second hand car - because the few that will be left around will demand a much higher price than usual - and there is likely to be no warrenty, even limited, as the only sellers will be the owners - second hand dealers will be put out of business.

Why is no one asking where all this new scrap metal is going to go? Is this the scheme to replace the scrap brass that they tried to get to China by crushing all the military spend shells and selling to China instead of allowing the age-old practice of reloading outfits to buy and reload the shells? (The NRA blew that out of the water.)

So did China throw a fit and demand they find another source of ‘scrap metal’?

Something more is afoot here than meets to eye.
It looks like most of the ‘clunkers’ being turned in are perfectly viable vehicles in good condition as the common denominator of the folks turning them in is folk who can also afford to take out a car loan and pay the increased insurance.

This is wrong in every way you can look at it.

Yep. These are the people we want in charge of our health care. Actually, their ideas on health care is similar. The elderly will be the clunkers to let die...
