Well, they have a lot of camels. They have to do something with them.
I was talking to some of the sailors on HMS Walney, a minehunter that has done some tours in the Gulf. Apparently the Iraqis had attempted to camoflage their sea mines by coating them with camel dung, expecting that this would encourage marine colonisation and hide the mine from prying RN eyes.
Unfortunately for them, sea life doesnt like camel dung. Its toxic to them. Not only had they not grown over the mine but it was completely visible.
