Most of us old enough can remember that remarkable week 40 years ago, when the world held its breath as the United States fulfilled a mission championed by the late Pres. John F. Kennedy -- to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade of the 1960s. On July 20, 1969, that step was taken by astronaut Neil Armstrong.

If we are to have a space program, and I think we should, they need to be doing SOMETHING

Yes. But I think we would have been far wiser building a permenantly manned moon station than spending all that money on the ASS (Astronaut Storage station)

Steps to making Mars a great place.

1. Colonize Mars.
2. Build Orbital Defense grid.
3. Blow any ship full of freeloaders heading to Mars out of the sky.

Yes!! Just as it’s been on their agenda since the 80s.

(When it comes to Mars, NASA would rather keep it on the agenda FOEVER, than try to cheat us out of it!!!)

I vote yes. The federal can’t be too big. Why stop at Mars. Yes we can. There’s no limit. Think of all those cool pictures. So what if folks have to give up something to pay for it. People have become way too selfish.

No, because they won't be able to. 0bama is going to castrate NASA to pay for his health care and other socialist programs.

Well they need to work with robotics industry to make automated moon mining and manufacturing equipment we can send up there to build some actual infrastructure.

No. NASA should be scrapped and a new agency formed that cannot have more than 10% of ex-NASA people in it.

The ancillary benefits that came from America's manned space program are almost incalculable. From the moment that man first walked out of sub-Saharan Africa to explore the riches of the world wherever they may be, man has endeavored to satiate his inherent need to explore. Space exploration is the natural continuation in the fulfillment of that primal need. We should go to Mars and beyond.

Plus, the fact that so many liberal social do-gooders want to strip NASA of it's funding, makes me want to give them even more.

I’d be willing to chip in if James Hansen was on board.

Robotics would definitely be a good way to start digging in for some early shelter.

Should have been done years ago.
