Does FR need a ZOT category? (Vanity)
Free Republic ^ | 7-16-2009 | Danae

I have a wee tiny suggestion for Free Republic.

Is it at all possible to have a ZOT category, just as for General chat, or smokey back room?

It would be genuinely nice to have a place where the shame of so many trolls could be put on public display!

Thanks Mods!

I’m relieved that my daughter won’t have a car for a couple of years, now that she’s in the Coast Guard. I don’t know how she made it through the last year without ending up in a ditch - good reflexes, perhaps.

I love those little fluffy kittehs.

We went to the botanical gardens today. Nice to walk around outdoors, although the Undead Baby isn’t used to sunlight and sweated a great deal and fell asleep!

We also went by the Boy Scouts store and got Pat’s Wolf Cub book and a variety of other items that I’ll have to sew on people’s uniforms, after they bribe me. Anoreth called - she’s off base today, wandering around with another girl in the rain from Hurricane Bill (no relation). They were planning to go to a movie.

This is Anoreth’s boat:

She said she doesn’t know yet whether it’s in port or at sea for her arrival. If it’s at sea, maybe she’ll be helicoptered out to it ... or maybe she’ll hang around in port answering phones and typing until it comes in!

I’m on my way to an early “evening.” We had about a minute’s worth of rain today, but it DID make the air smell good.

The furry bodies are glaring at me, having heard me say, “Don’t get comfy!”

So, I’ll see you all tomorrow!

I wish I could join you in the early night, but Frank doesn’t think he’s ready for bed yet!

Be nice to the catz, or you won’t be back tomorrow at all.

Congratulations!

Our former priest graduated today and is now a Marine/Navy Chaplain.

"Congratulations! Our former priest graduated today and is now a Marine/Navy Chaplain."

Congratulations indeed! But boy, that has to be the best job in the world.

You can perform baptism, last rites, and a burial at sea all in one operation.

LoM and I went out for an afternoon of taking pictures. We were actually looking for a lone tall cedar for a triptych she has in mind, but it was really the wrong time of day (as much an excuse to get out of the house). There's one a bit over a mile from here (10 miles' drive to get there) but where it is it would have to be an early morning shot.

Photobucket We discovered a scenic area not far away that we didn't even know existed. Here's a picture from there.

LOL, I don't think our former priest would agree with you. But our Book of Common Prayer has services for all three (though the last is a special prayer):

At the Burial of the Dead at Sea.

¶ The same office may be used; but instead of the Sentence of Committal, the Minister shall say,

UNTO Almighty God we commend the soul of our brother departed, and we commit his body to the deep; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection unto eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ; at whose coming in glorious majesty to judge the world, the sea shall give up her dead; and the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in him shall be changed, and made like unto his glorious body; according to the mighty working whereby he is able to subdue all things unto himself.

In the days of “wooden ships and iron men”, the sailors slept in canvas (what else?), hammmocks slung belowdecks wherever there was (almost) room.

Should a man die, and need to be buried at sea, his former bunk became his (canvas) shroud.

Very efficient.

Best wishes to the gentleman! We had some great Chaplains when I was growing up in the Navy. Shore duty could be a drag - parochial politics - but ship work separated the men from the boys.

The ICS flags read: "WELCOME ANORETH!"

(well, actually, they read N4J7(?)? . . . I think.)

Nice! We took picture at the gardens today. I don’t know what DP got on the digital, and I won’t have my film prints for a week!

I have no idea, but I suppose Anoreth covered that in Basic.
