I was wondering if any doctors here or moms or grannies have any suggestions for "prickly heat."
Apparently your legs, usually around the shins and calf get this. I put sunscreen on and even without sunscreen our pores can clog and the salt builds up from sweat/perspriation. It irritates the veins.
My legs lit up and I was saying "what the h**l is that." I was worried it was something serious. It looks pretty awful. The cure is to keep cool and stay in air conditioning. Gee thanks.
Common in kids and babies - poor babies.
It sounds silly and "prickly heat" sounds like something from a Tennessee Williams play with Elizabeth Taylor (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof or something). "Oh she sufferin from prickly heat."
It is gross - help! ;-)
Twice in one day. I got to post Polish Vodka. It cures all ills.
Massive amounts of beer and sex. That is what I tell my wife. Works for all illness known to man. Repeat as necessary.
Having raised 5 kids, mainly in the Texas heat, I’ll tell you what I used with good results: sprinkle on some corn starch and rub it around a bit.
Cool water rinse with cold tea bags.
Then talcum powder to keep the skin
dry. Works for me.
Cool shower, dry, dust with cornstarch.
Grape seed extract helps rebuild the bleeding vessels you experience with that. Basically, older people get it from leaking blood vessels. Also look into hesperidin.
Hesperidin comes from the white area on orange and grapefruit rinds and is also in the sheath around the pulp.
The cheapest place for grape seed extract, non-bulk, is Vitacost.com.

Good luck!
1-2 glasses of sugarcane juice OR 3-4 glasses of lime juice, daily. has worked for me 100% of the time when needed since granny passed it along to me many moon ago. give it a try.
From the Merck Website:
The condition is controlled by keeping the skin cool and dry. Use of powders and antiperspirants often helps. Conditions that increase sweating should be avoided, thus an air-conditioned environment is ideal.
What Causes Prickly Heat?
Prickly heat results when sweat glands are blocked and ruptured, and sweat is trapped below the skin.
Once the rash develops, corticosteroid creams or lotions are used, sometimes with a bit of menthol added. However, these topical treatments are not as effective as keeping the skin cool and dry.
Thanks. I will give it a shot. I was ready to try ice cubes even. One site suggest drinking lime juice or lots of citrus juice.
It is weird that I never got it before. Good old baking soda and Noxzema. I will give it a go.
I tried aloe for sunburn with Lidocane from Solarcaine but it did not help. Considered apple cider vinegar because it is good for sunburns and just about anything else you can think of.
Lime juice is commonly suggested....
“Anyone have a cure for prickly heat?”
Stay inside until mid-September.
wipe it rubbing alcohol and then dry and dust with corn starch, keep cool air on it. kills most skin stuff
Thanks to all. See the wise guys suggest beer, vodka and sex and the ladies (and a few guys) have more sensible but less fun suggestions. Thanks - it really is creepy.
;-)
Your "cure" is like the valium(it was pill of the day back then) the dr. gave me when my husband went overseas, leaving me with a job and 3 small kids.
I took 1--just one! Still had all my problems, realized I still had them--just didn't give a d@#n. Threw them out--couldn't afford to feel that way.
On 2d thought, vodka is better--you don't even remember the problems with that. But isn't Russian better?--Smirnof?
vaudine
wipe it rubbing alcohol and then dry and dust with corn starch, keep cool air on it. kills most skin stuff
LOL! You and Jet Jaguar are smart a*ses. Love it. Thanks. ;-)
Yeah I got that one.
