I have seen it as well and I am intrigued. I believe that there is a short film that it is based off of. If you dig around a bit on Atom Films or youtube you should be able to find the short.
BTW have you seen the trailer for Tim Burton’s (produced not directed) new film 9?

The R rating is due to “pervasive language and violence”.
The name of the short film this is based off of is “Alive in Joburg”.
The premise of the film is that it’s 28 years after aliens land on earth. They’re refugees from their planet. They have superior technology, but they won’t share it, and for whatever reason they are not able to return to their home. The alien tech will not work without alien DNA. Because of the alien’s reluctance to share their tech, the aliens are sequestered, unable to go past certain areas. By some interesting coincidence, the place the ship landed was Johannisburg, South Africa...who (you might recall) have some experience with this area (read ‘aparthied’).
Through some means, one guy..a human..accidentally changed his DNA so that the alien tech works for him. Now everyone’s after him, and he’s on the run.
