Question: Is anyone else's corn stunted? My stalks are short and now the tassels are coming out. What are the chances of getting corn off a half-sized stalk and what am I doing wrong?

I think the grass is stealing for the corn. Pull it up by the roots. Shake the dirt off and use as a mulch. Corn looks too close together....but hard to tell. Corn is s huge nitrogen eater

Also - did your weather heat up really fast this spring? Customers brought in a few stunted things and poor germination on a lot of things this season because we went from mid-70’s where everthing was germinating just fine, to a week of blistering 90’s, which killed off a lot of seedlings and stunted the ones that managed to survive.

Winter squash and pumpkins took the biggest hit; I think the little seedlings fried as they were emerging. :( Even my FIL, who has farmed forever had germination/fruit set problems this spring.

My corn is generally knee high this time of year but this year it is waist high and healthy as all get-up. Get rid of those weeds and add fertilizer as others have said. I also hill up my corn twice early on and I plant in blocks for better pollination plus I walk through the rows and shake the stalks when the silk starts to form in the ears and the tassels are “ripe”...
