“The fish are not nearly as dangerous as the flat worms that can swim up your urethra and take up residence in your bladder.”

EGAD! that sent shivers up my spine.

There are some weird critters residing in that river for sure.

sedimentological and paleontological analysis on samples from two boreholes

What do Biden and Gore have to do with this?

Gore is a bore. Biden is entertainment.

They took samples from two locations; that doesn’t mean they were looking at only two data points.

The sediments get older as you get deeper down the core.

They also most likely did an “n” of three at least for every single data point in order to establish statistical significance.

Keeping a comparison simple is often the best way for an initial analysis; then do a mutli point comparison.

Johnny von Neumann used to say, “with four parameters I can fit an elephant, and with five I can make him wiggle his trunk.”

Yeah...if I took the data I’d explain it thusly. Regardless, very shallow sample location-wise....

I stand corrected. I had heard different accounts while I was down in South America and for some reason a flat worm swimming up your urethra sounded more plausible than a catfish.

My unit in the USAF took that fish as a mascot, and we named our softball team the “Helmet Cats”; because that was the nickname we came up with for the Candiru based upon its relation to catfish and its point of entry.

Why? Even the puke at LGF quoted her as having said in 2006 (when running for Governor) "“I won’t have religion as a litmus test, or anybody’s personal opinion on evolution or creationism,” Palin said."

Hard to reconcile that with some sort of difficulty 'splainin' stuff eh?!

Her mom and dad were school teachers.

Here's the real problem ~ you don't know beans about RELIGION IN AMERICA. First, there are Fundies, then there are Catholics, then there are Mainstream Protestants, then there are Holy Rollers ~ and they're all different. Some people get things mixed up and think the Catholics are not "fundies" and the MSMers are just the Presbyterians or Anglicans who don't believe in Jesus' divinity.

You gotta' keep the differences in mind or you make mistakes like saying the Holy Rollers believe in a 6,000 year old Earth, and the Catholics worship idols.

Definitely time for a review on your part.

They had a special on one of the cable science channels last week. http://animal.discovery.com/videos/river-monsters-fish-swims-up-urine-stream.html Lots of gruesome photos, plus an interview with the doctor who removed the catfish.

They had endoscopy video of the operation, plus showed the offending fish preserved in a jar. The show’s host eventually located the victim and reunited him with the doctor plus showed him, for the first time, the fish in the jar.

Very effective confirmation of the “urban legend”

The Amazon River has been around for 11 million years ago and in its shape for the last 2.4 million years ago...

All I know is that I’m never swimming in it. I watch the show about fish in the Amazon.

I have... but only mid day when they're not biting. Was more worried about the electric eel than the piranha.
