HOWEY-IN-THE HILLS - A Lake County woman showering at her grandson's home was attacked by an 18-month-old pit bull and had to be rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
The woman, 73-year-old Joan Brown Benitez, suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to her arms, lower legs and thigh areas during the attack which occurred last week, according to the incident report. The attack occurred June 5 at a residence on State Road 19 in Howey-in-the-Hills.
The dog, a chocolate-and-white colored dog named Marley, had been outside when Benitez came over to her grandson's home and asked if she could take a shower there. As she was showering, several dogs entered the residence through a "doggie door."
The dog's owner, James Rhew, told a deputy after the attack that only Marley had "blood present on his muzzle." He also said that Marley was not familiar with Benitez, who had only been inside the home a couple of times this year.

How sweet...named Marley. I don’t remember taht being in the movie....
Why does anybody own a pittbull??
A yeti attacked me in the shower once. Or twice.
You asked — Why does anybody own a pittbull??
—
Well, to bite people, of course.... :-)
Because I can.
I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
Well it's obvious that she provoked the dog by only having been inside the house a couple of times. It was her responsibility to make friends with every dog in the neighborhood, and she failed that responsibility. OTO a 9mm works even better than that. If I'm going to clean up blood in the house I would far rather it be dog blood than mine.
Pitbulls don’t usually take showers with Grandma. Wonder if she used all of the hot water?
Seriously, I hope she has a full and complete recovery.
One should be entitled to privacy in the shower, even if you are a pit bull.
I've had several people insist that there is absolutely nothing innate in pit bulls that makes them more likely to be any more aggressive than any other breed.
It's all in the way they're raised they insist.
Not at all unlike the argument that many Muslims are "peaceful".
I only hunt elephants in Alabama ...
Well of course — the tuscaloosa there.
Bah-duhm-boom.
What was an elephant doing in your pajamas? And if they fit him, you must be a fatass. :)
LOL!
My uncle ran a kennel for decades and said he rather shoot one than board one. They snap unexpectedly and go nuts. To your point, there must be a bunch of people raising pitt bulls wrong. Why don’t we hear about vicious beagle attacks?
