Woman Says Constant Squawking Drove Her To Kill

A woman said a peacock's constant squawking drove her to kill it last weekend, Honolulu television station KITV reported.

Residents of the Makaha Valley Towers property said they woke up Sunday morning to a peacock screeching and a woman attacking the bird.

"She took a bat and she beat it to death and she carried it out of here," witness Mike Targgart said. Targgart said he heard the commotion and ran downstairs where Honolulu police had arrived.

"It was horrible to see its eye was bashed out and it had a broken leg," Taggart said.

Sandra Maloney said sleep deprivation from the noisy peacocks led her to commit the violent act. "I grabbed him by the tail and I whacked him on the head," Maloney said.

She said the peacock population has ballooned since she moved in five years ago and her repeated requests for their removal are going unanswered.

"They run around our barbecue area; our food prep area is unusable. The picnic table and bench all have to be wiped down before you dare use them," Maloney said.

A representative of the United States Humane Society said Maloney is facing animal cruelty charges.

Yes it is. But if peacocks are going to set this woman off & have her take a bat to one then I wonder what else would set her off....If you want to thin a flock down , fine, do it in a humane way. You don't beat it to death. I am glad she is locked up. I hope they do a mental evaluation on her. I lived with them & they make noise but I wouldn't take a bat to a bird. The roosters in my campground made far more noise & I never had to kill any. Drunken campers were a pain in my rear & I never used a bat on them either. I thought they were far more annoying then the peacocks & the roosters.

I raised guineas as a kid in the country so I understand. Friggin things never shut up. I captured and sold all but one. Never could catch him, so I shot him and we had him for dinner.

Did you watch the video? The woman is one "unhinged" piece of white trash. Plenty of people on this website will defend trashy behavior like this...as they do every time it happens. The same people sit around complaining that conservatives are stereotyped.

No what bothers me is defending a law that allows someone to face punishment and incarceration similar to a child molestation for the killing of a bird. Not saying what SHE did was right, but LOCKED UP for killing a bird? Please.

I have no problem with killing things. It is how you do it. The peacock could have been moved. I really wonder why people find it acceptable to just go take a bat & kill a bird which is doing what is normal for them to do. I do think that woman has issues. There is animal control, or some rescue that could have been called....And actually when I am in a good mood I am fun. Welcome to FR.
