Peacock Beaten To Death; Woman Blames Bird (Woman Says Constant Squawking Drove Her To Kill)

Woman Says Constant Squawking Drove Her To Kill

A woman said a peacock's constant squawking drove her to kill it last weekend, Honolulu television station KITV reported.

Residents of the Makaha Valley Towers property said they woke up Sunday morning to a peacock screeching and a woman attacking the bird.

"She took a bat and she beat it to death and she carried it out of here," witness Mike Targgart said. Targgart said he heard the commotion and ran downstairs where Honolulu police had arrived.

"It was horrible to see its eye was bashed out and it had a broken leg," Taggart said.

Sandra Maloney said sleep deprivation from the noisy peacocks led her to commit the violent act. "I grabbed him by the tail and I whacked him on the head," Maloney said.

She said the peacock population has ballooned since she moved in five years ago and her repeated requests for their removal are going unanswered.

"They run around our barbecue area; our food prep area is unusable. The picnic table and bench all have to be wiped down before you dare use them," Maloney said.

A representative of the United States Humane Society said Maloney is facing animal cruelty charges.

Constant Squawking...
Al Gore’s followers, the homosexual lobby, our Congress, our current administration...
There’s a lot of squawking going on.

Peacocks are extremely noisy and very irritating. We had a few when I was a kid so I sympathize with this lady. Next time use a bow tipped with guillotine broadheads.

The lady should be given a medal; peacocks are some of the most annoying fowl. They squawk constantly and poo everywhere. They are not small birds.

Peacock is supposed to taste very, very good. Don't know for a fact but would be willing to find out. This kind of article points up , to me, the wussification of America. All the residents should thin this herd periodically and have a barbecue for everyone. I know, some of you well meaning souls will flame me, I don't give a sh**, flame away, I won't change my mind. Killing peacocks is not a criminal offense IMO.

Agreed.

It's insane that the cops actually have to waste time on nonsense like this. Sounds like the damn bird had it coming.

We used to have a big, fat crow that lived in our back yard for a while. Most every morning, around 5 a.m., he'd start cawing at random intervals.

How about poisoning peacocks in the park instead of pigeons?

I doubt anyone will flame you. Peacocks are kind of cool to look at in zoos, but I can’t imagine dealing with their racket on a constant basis.
Wonder what the hippies in my local Whole Foods would say if I went to the meat counter and asked for fresh peacock? I’d probably be arrested.

It is the way she killed it that bothers me. I happen to like them myself. Nobody will get on your property with a few of them roaming around. They do make quite a bit of noise & I've lived summers with a whole bunch of them walking through our summer campground. Never bothered anyone & the kids loved collecting their feathers. The eggs are supposed to be very tasty but I am not into fowl.

They’re mean too, had one chase me at a zoo once. They let them just walk around at this. It was Hogle Zoo up in Salt Lake City. I’ve disliked them ever since. They are like the beautiful woman that has the personality of the devil.
