NEW YORK - Alicia Istanbul woke up one recent Wednesday to find herself locked out of the Facebook account she opened in 2007, one Facebook suddenly deemed fake. The stay-at-home mom was cut off not only from her 330 friends, including many she had no other way of contacting, but also from the pages she had set up for the jewelry design business she runs from her Atlanta-area home. Although Istanbul understands why Facebook insists on having real people behind real names for every account, she wonders why the online hangout didn't simply ask before acting. "They should at least give you a warning, or at least give you the benefit of the doubt," she said. "I was on it all day. I had built my entire social network around it. That's what Facebook wants you to do."

If you’re using Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or any of that other nonsense as a major backbone of your business plan, then maybe you should be instead wearing a paper hat, asking people if they want fries with that.
Also, if you’ve got 330 “friends” that your only means of contact is a social networking free site, then you either have an inflated opinion of your ability to attract friends, and/or you need to get out more with REAL people, who often exchange telephone numbers.
She probably was zotted by a bot, not a human. With that many accounts, it would take a state full of real people to vet them all.
My own Facebok name, Mr. Mxyzptlk, is real and is my own; I’ll sue if they zot me.
And I was just beginning to wonder why I haven’t seen a status update from my Facebook friends, Dick Gozinia and Harry Paratestees.
Hummm. Since there are so many fake names, makes me wonder if the story is well correct in anyway.

I don’t think they’ll flag Peter Goezinya. I, along with a buddy of mine, wrote a paper for a class in college and my buddy actually attributed the name Officer Peter Goezinya to an actual officer (he didn’t have his real name) that gave him a ticket. The female prof never caught it!
