Google Gets Goats to Mow Lawn at Company Headquarters

Last week, Google brought in a herd of goats to mow the grass on its Mountain View, Calif. headquarters rather than using lawnmowers.

The company said that it wanted to take a more "low-carbon" approach with the goats reducing the company's contribution to air and noise pollution.

SNIP

PETA responded to a TechCrunch call about the goats, saying that though they have no problem with letting goats do what they do, they do have concerns about how they were transported and whether they have enough shelter and water.

Google said that though the goats were not technically employees, "each goat is entitled to a free organic lunch."

Turns out another tech company uses goat power to mow its property. Yahoo has also employed goats to graze their grounds .

If watching goats eat grass and run around the hills of the companies headquarters is your thing, enjoy the scene captured in this 19-minute video clip .

I am afraid the pollution caused by transporting the goats to and from Google probably was higher than the pollution of any mower would have been.

Personally I hope the goats run wild and muck up the place. That will google em up but good.

Whoever is tending the goats better understand their behavior. It just about takes an electric fence or about a 6 foot chain-link fence to contain them otherwise. They are good jumpers quite like a deer. Another problem is keeping dogs out especially if the goats have been dehorned. Goats can be the most contrary and violent animal on a farm. I watched mine and have a real healthy respect for their abilities to do harm.

My goats have their horns because I have them up in the woods and keeping a power line cleared meaning out of my sight most of the time. I don't let grandkids go in the lot with them without me for no reason. I only have Nanny's and whethers {fixed males}. But Nanny's can be as belligerent and dangerous as a Billy especially the one controlling the herd.

Now you really want to wreak havoc put a Billy in with their herd LOL. The stench alone will kill ya. I had a Billy once. I got rid of him after the first season and hopefully will never see the likes of one again.

Wouldn’t manual push mowers be even more green?

OMG. goats are BROWSERS not GRAZERS. Maybe they should have googled goats before getting them. Geez, city folk.

Brilliant. Methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2.

Not bad, as long as they don’t get left in the same area for to long to over graze.
