Really?? You are a very interesting person, yorkie! And that’s a good thing.
Sorry, spiders are not my thing. Especially furry ones. Most things with fur are cute, but NOT spiders. Still, like you, I probably would have stopped traffic, too, to keep it from getting run over. I don’t hate them, just don’t want them near me. :-(
You didn’t name him/her, did you? I have found that’s not the best thing to do. I gave my scrub jays names and now one of them has gone missing....Scrubita. I’m worried sick over her, and her mate, Precocious, seems lost without her. They were always together. I got way too attached to those darned birds. I thought Precocious was gone too, but he returned yesterday after not being around for a couple weeks. He’s not acting right. He was probably looking for his mate. They should have a nest and young ones by now. I don’t hear any jay babies squalling as I normally do in the spring time. It’s just sad. :-(
Jay’s mate for life, but I don’t know if they will take a new mate if something happens to theirs. If Precocious does take a new mate, he will probably bring her to me and teach her how to beg for peanuts. He brought Scrubita to me two years ago and showed her not to be afraid of me.

Hi, Amy. It was a nice weekend, wasn’t it. I think the wind could calm down a bit. I’m kind of tired of that, but otherwise, the weather was perfect.

The bird is a hornbill. I didn’t keep any other info on it.
I don’t like the wind but other than that the weather has been great.
I need to check my email. Since the inbox isn’t always open, I forget about it if I’m busy. Spent a lot of time yesterday trying to defrag Marissa’s computer. It is running soooo sloooow. I’m hoping we can keep it going for another year. I use it as a backup and also for my email.
Hope you are having a great Monday. I have an appt for a perm this afternoon. Marissa is also going to get a haircut. I hope she decides to keep it short.
I would have watched, too..at a distance...I just hate surprises and things that jump..
.I was once spider phobic when a teenager..Having children..especially a bug phobic one cured me..My daughter won’t let me kill a bug at her house, however..I must trap it with a plastic cup and paper plate and place it outside..even spiders. LOL
I read up on tarantulas after the encounter and realize he was just hunting for a mate..The size is intimidating.
I was going to trap him with a coffee can and a sturdy paper plate but he disappeared before I could get all my gear together and myself dressed for the hunt.I would have released him. I did not want him in my garage or in my house!
Black widows are something to fear here..but I read up on brown recluses because I know how deadly they are. I don’t know that I have ever seen a brown recluse..thank heavens.

PROS:
They don’t bark (although some can make sounds).
They don’t claw the furniture.
If you go away for a week (or even 2), they don’t die of starvation.
They don’t need a litter box.
They don’t need to be walked.

My neighbor was bitten by a brown recluse (also known as a “fiddle-back”) two months ago. He was bitten on the outside of his arm - just below the elbow. He still cannot close his hand, and may have permanent nerve damage to his arm and hand.
We have black widows here, too, but although their bite is poisonous, the permanent damage is usually nil.

Marissa always wants to put the bugs outside instead of killing them. I’ve warned her about picking up bugs and spiders but I don’t think she pays much attention. She does know about the Black Widow.
Ohh and she starts screaming if she sees ants. When she was younger, she got in an ant hill. Seems it took me forever to get them off of her. I think she had about 4 bites.
Yesterday, she found some slugs and put two of them in a heart that she had drawn in front of the garage.
I got over my fear of tarantulas, when I moved to AZ.
After unpacking boxes all day, sorting, cleaning shelves, organizing, etc, I made my bed and collapsed onto it. I lay there totally exhausted, almost too tired to close my eyes.
There, in the corner of the ceiling, accross the room, was a tarantula. It started walking toward me. I froze. It stopped right above my head and just stayed there. (My prayer that night was to not let me sleep with my mouth open and to not let him drop.)
Next morning, he was back in ‘his’ corner. I told a Native American at work about the spider, and she closed her eyes for a couple seconds, and then told me the spider was sent to protect me from scorpions. She said it will not hurt you.
I was just naieve enough to believe her, and each night, the spider would leave ‘his’ corner, and stop right above my head. In the morning, he would be back in ‘his’ corner.
I had a group of friends from work over a couple weeks after moving in, and my ‘protector’ decided to join the party. He was crawling up the slacks of a guest. I told her not to panic - but there was a spider crawling up her leg, and I would capture it. She sat very still, and I swooped him into a bowl, covered it and took him out to the bushes.
I never saw him again - and ya know what? I kinda missed him.
I’m going to assume “Yes” with lots of added emphasis.

I had a college friend with a cavity in her leg from a black widow..I think the flesh around the bite dies..Brown recluses are definitely worse.
If I see a spider in my house..I kill it! I watch them build webs outside. We had black widows at our lake cabin years ago..I have not seen one here.
No way would I have slept with a tarantula in my room..I may not be phobic anymore but I would not have slept!..Neat story, though.
Alternate theory is that cats ARE aliens.

I probably will never know what happened to Scrubita, but there have been a ton of cats in the area this spring. I hate to think what could have happened, but I have to accept that it is nature and who am I to judge or interfere?....(but I sure would have interfered if I could have!). :-(
If it warms up a little more, I am going out to trim some hedges in the front. My ground (carpet) roses out front are putting on quite a show this year and the rest of the yard looks pretty raggedy. If people are going to be ogling my roses as they drive by, I guess I should get the rest of the front looking nice.

I am not phobic, but I am with MEG on this one. No way would I be in the same house with a tarantula, let alone the same room! LOL.
I don't think we have tarantulas around here, but we do have black widows. That's why I write out that check to the pest control guy each month!
