This isn't a poem, but rather the lyrics to a song by Sandra Soffe. When I first read this tears were literally rolling down my cheeks. Let's just say, I can totally relate.:)

I KISSED MY SON GOODBYE TODAY

In the world of make believe,
Where good reigns over evil,
I watched my son play soldier
Fighting villains and crime.

I remember every time he would take a stand
All those bad guys never had a chance.
With a salute, and a smile he'd say to me
"Mom when I get older and grow up really tall,
I want to be a soldier most of all."
Lord, I kissed my son goodbye today.
I couldn't let him see me cry.
He thought I had something in my eye.
He looked so strong and brave
As he climbed up on the school bus,
He turned back to look at us
With a salute, a smile, then a wave.
Oh please don't let him be afraid.

My son's all grown up now.
There is no more make believe
Life and all it brings is far too real
He's learned the price of peace
Doesn't come easily and he says
He has to take a stand,
To help bring peace
throughout our land.

Lord, I kissed my son goodbye today.
I couldn't let him see me cry.
He thought I had something in my eye.
He looked so strong and brave
as he climbed up on the bus,
he turned back to look at us
with a salute, a smile, then a wave.
Oh please don't let him be afraid

Lord, I kissed my son goodbye today.
He's still my little soldier.
Keep him safe from harm
And please don't let him be afraid. Please, don't let him be afraid.

wow... I can see why you cried. Thanks Mozie

. We do have a few men that visit with us .. a couple of them are poets. The Mayor (Rus in Buffalo NY area) does the daily devotional, Dave, Oesy, Conor are all great men.

Sometimes someone has a cool graphic that will go with the reading or song or poem you share & you will see it up in “table form”.

Well, I need to get a LOT done today..only slept 2 hours this morning & never did get that bath.. decided will do my morning mud romp with dogs(which will be mid afternoon) & some nasty little project here before I head for tub. I really wasn’t dirty as such yesterday, just wanted the long relaxing soak. My skin is so very VERY dry - my whole life. I dont bathe OR wash my hair daily for that reason. As is I am like parchment & I have tried all different types of lotions, oils, treatments.. tea oils, Zim’s Crack Cream etc..

This is posted in honor of National Hamburger Day.
In Chandler, AZ, there is a 'restaurant' called "The Heart Attack Grill".
Here is a sample of their menu:

Customers are called "Patients" and are hospital banded for identification.
They have "All you can eat "Flat Liner Fries" (all you can eat - and deep fried in pure lard.)
Check out the CBS report: Heart Attack Grill - Bill Geist, CBS News

I have dry skin too. Avon Skin So Soft oil helps; also Bath & Body Works body creams.

I am off to the post office. Ev ordered himself a Kindle; he wants to "read the classics" during his downtime over there. Amazon won't ship to APO addresses (GRRRR!!!) so he had it shipped here; it arrived yesterday so I'll get it in the mail to him today.

Then it's the dentist, then home to teach, then off to rehearsal (we're doing "The Music Man" this year.)

I used skin so soft all during the outdoor seasons.. mostly for bugs... after bath I put on washcloth & rub into skin. I never have problems with flies, mosquitoes etc. I think not eating much sugar helps that also.

outing delayed. BIG storm soon to be here with high winds. Might as well clean the kitchen - yuk

I had to look up what a KINDLE is. I am so very technologically retarded. I bet I am the only one on thread without an iPod & if I had one wouldn't know how to use it.. and it is considered OLD technology

Can you tell I am avoiding dishes & kitchen work?

Legend of the Butterfly

Once as a child many years ago...
on a balmy summer's eve.
I sat in the yard at my Mother's side...
and a butterfly lit at my sleeve.

“It's a sign of good luck”, my Mother said.
As the butterfly stayed at my arm...
“It's a symbol of all the beauty in life.
Make sure you do it no harm.”

First butterflies are eggs and after they hatch...
they see that their life's just beginning.
They're content with their lot in life,
so, they go out on a limb and start spinning.

They stay out awhile in a magic cocoon....
then emerge like flowers in spring.
Then they share the story of their victory and success...
through each of the colors of their wings.

The gold in their wings is the”Golden Rule”...
To follow that is a must.
The blue....That means true blue.
Always be someone people can trust.

The green of the tip of their wing
is saying Stay green, and you'll always grow.
The silver is the lining in the clouds of doubt...
that you must look for as you go through life.

Butterflies bend with the wind, it's true.
Still they get where they want to go.
They arrive by persistence through their own insistence...
A lesson more people should know.

Sought and valued by the whole human race...
For their beauty, tenacity and charm.
If a butterfly ever chances to stay at your sleeve...
remember, my friend, don't fight it, but,
learn all you can from the butterfly clan.
And you too, may become a rare item.
