Please keep chat and one-liners to a minimum. This thread is intended to be a one-stop-shop for all of todays NEWS and info related to the Mexican Swine Flu.
To make it faster for everyone to catch up on the actual NEWS, PLEASE PLEASE minimize chat, jokes, bashing the administration, soapboxes, and so forth. These live threads can become useless monster threads if everyone throws in their one-liners, and we all have 'em! So let's try to keep this thread useful for the latest NEWS.
Thank you all in advance.
Folks, this is potentially very serious because of the nature of the bug.
It’s an off-season bug and it seems to be killing people in the 25-45 bracket, like the Spanish Flu.
The other problem is that it’s spreading damned fast. It’s actually kind of fascinating to watch.
My medical knowledge is really pretty slim, but based on memory of what I’ve read in the past, the fact that it is happening at all, on any level, is scary as viruses constantly mutate.
Will try to post some info regarding virus mutation and human to human transfer.
DO NOT shake hands with ANYone, whether they look or sound sick or not. And keep a disposable surgical mask with you and wear it when in the presence of many people: buses, subways, large crowds at parks, ball games, etc.
This will do more to prevent the spread of any disease than most people realize. The handshake is a real killer. If you’re going to shake hands, wear disposable surgical gloves.

Well, that lasted all of six replies. Like herding cats, ain't it?
never let a good crisis go to waste.
My son is recovering from a virus that included major headache, sore throat, aches and pains etc. Everyone where he works had it as well.
I live in the sierra Nevada mountains in California.
Obama’s fault!
Here we go Baxtel is already working on manufacturing a vaccine...all fearful minions line up for it!! I’m 55 yrs. old and never had a flu shot, and healthier than most who have!! shheeshh!
It is likely very widespread at this point. Tens if not hundreds of thousands of infections...yet not a single death outside of Mexico.
The media is going to do their best to incite panic and many in here will buy it hook-line-and sinker. Just watch.

With the speed of modern transportation, it’s probably already all across the globe. I did notice on a map I saw this morning that it is concentrated not only in Mexico City and the center of the country (although there is a hot spot there), but in Southern Mexico near the tourist areas. This is where the NY kids picked it up, and probably where the Europeans got it, too. I wonder if it may be where the people in Mexico City contracted it. These people are not impoverished Mexican slum dwellers, but include upper middle class folks such as the head of the Anthropological Museum, who might be likely to vacation on or visit the Gulf.
I suppose it’s also possible that it entered through the resort area (there’s European swine virus in the mix), although it seemed to be really heavy around the Guatemala border, and perhaps it actually came from further south in Latin America. This is all based on a map that I saw this morning that had the infected areas highlighted in red.
On the positive side, it doesn’t seem to be deadly here in the U.S. so far.
One Headline you won’t read “ Pork kills”
Perhaps Obama’s pre-security team brought the Swine Flu to Mexico and not the other way around...

I understand this BUT it is the WHAT IF’S that are moving the masses with FEAR. Remember..the we are all gonna die if we don’t bail out.....?????
Why do the same tactics keep working? There is nothing we can do but wait to see what this bug does do...not freak about what it can do..which at this point is mere speculation.
I wonder how many folks die of flu in mexico every year. I hope this story is like the shark attack stories around Florida we had several years ago, a bad flu outbreak would be awful.
