As y'all know there is a Freepathon going on
and I thought it might be a fun idea to raise some contributions in Chet's name.
Kinda like making lemonade out of lemons.
As you might be aware, our buddy Chet like to post pitbull stories.
I'm suggesting to those who want to join in
that over the next week we set aside a certain amount of money each day to be donated to FR.
There can be 2 donation levels, one of $5/day and one of $10/day.
From those base levels we will subtract $1/day for each pitbull article that Chet post.
The folks at the $5/day level, if Chet remains consistent are likely to pay nothing.
For example Chet has posted SIX pitbull articles today,
Folks at the $5/day pledge level would donate nothing for today.
Folks at the $10/day pledge level would be on the hook today for $4
(course the day isn't over yet and Chet might post 4 more articles before midnight)
We'll start tomorrow and tally up the totals next Saturday,
post our results on the Freepathon thread and make our Chet Challenge donations.
It could also be the time when we make any additional donations in the name of all us dog lovers here on FR
LOL!
Great thread!
We discovered a case of media misidentification...Post 25
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a clarification by the media
or for an effort by Chet to have the title amended to show the correct info.
Come and get me coppers!
What an jerk thing to say about fellow FReepers.
See if you can pick out the Pit Bull in these photos:
http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
I narrowed it to 2, and was right... but it was the second one I clicked on.
My own breed is on that page, and I’ve had people ask me if my breed is “part Pit” — my breed is a HOUND and is nowhere near a TERRIER, which is what Pit Bull TERRIERS are. But people, even DOG PEOPLE like myself, and even Animal Control Officers and Animal Shelter staff, are not good with breed identification. So the “Pit Bull” gets blamed for many things they are not responsible for.
Just shows why you should always spay or neuter.
Bookmarking this.
I’ve no opinions to state here and now on pit bulls.
I just find it amusing that Free Republic seeks to benefit as they raise monies for the FReepathon based on character assassinations of other FReepers.
Whatever brings in the money, I guess, is OK.

I Couldn’t Give A RatS Ass About Your Fake concerns... >>
Oh my gosh, relax! All I was doing it exactly what I said ~ posting the 2nd paragraph of the one that didn’t have the dog identified. I even acknowledged that you posted the non pittie/rottie one with the cocker spaniel. I just noticed that was the only one without the dog breed identified, so I posted the 2nd paragraph.
And those concerns that I told you about were not “fake” ~ they were very genuine. I seriously do care about people, and was trying to express my real feelings to you about your situation.
I, in now way whatsoever, attempted to attack or humiliate you in that post ~ if it looked like I was, I’m sorry. I was simply posting the 2nd paragraph of the only story that didn’t have the breed identified, since you had all the other one identified. I’m sorry that you felt the need to turn around & attack me with such anger.
You're doing a pretty good job of "character assassination" on yourself
Thank you, kanawa. It is good to see that there are others out there who are educated on the subject of dogs in general and pit bulls specifically.
Malamutes were also unfairly labeled at one time. I don’t know if that is still true today. We had a malamute and one day a new acquaintance came to our home with his children and watched as our dog welcomed them with woooo’s, kisses, and play. This man smiled and laughingly said, “ah, this must be one of those child killing malamutes”.
Anyhow, thank you for helping educate people to the truth behind breeds of dogs.

“One could say the same about the MSMs focus on only the bad news coming out of Iraq. Yes, theyre true but collectively they represent a falsehood, when theres so much good news they refuse to mention.”
Good analogy, ellery. Very well said.
Chet posting “news” stories about Pit Bulls, is the same as the MSM posting “news” stories about Conservatives/Republicans.
Both have an agenda that “bites”, both are designed to create FUD, and both offer a “backhanded” attempt at balance.
>So the Pit Bull gets blamed for many things they are not responsible for.<
Absolutely. I went to a dog show today. There was a large crowd around one ring, watching a little 28 pound dog do her Utility routine:
Each level of AKC obedience competition - novice, open, and utility - requires mastering a specific skill set, which increase in difficulty, before advancing to the next level. In each of the 3 sections, the dog earns a title after receiving a qualifying score under three different judges.
Novice Class demonstrates good canine companion skills such as heeling, both with and without a leash, coming when called, standing for a simple physical examination, and staying in both a sit and a down position with a group of dogs.
Open Class is more challenging as more exercises are done off leash and retrieving and jumping challenges are added.
Utility Class, which includes scent discrimination, directed retrieves, jumping and silent signal exercises, is the most challenging class.
The 28 pound (adult) dog went through the exercises with precision, happily wagging her tail at her owner. The crowd applauded when the little dog and her owner won the class.
The little dog is a purebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier. This is one of the breeds lumped into the classification of “pit bull”.
Keep in mind, this little dog was far smaller than an English Bulldog, or even some cocker spaniels. She greeted her admirers with a happily wagging tail and wiggled her entire body in the process. She paid no attention to the other dogs around her, never showing the slightest interest, much less aggression. She put forth a performance in obedience that would have made a border collie’s owner envious.
Yet, in some sections of our country, this owner dare not take her dog, because if she did so, the little dog could be confiscated and destroyed for no reason other than hysteria. This dog poses no appreciable threat, yet politicians have passed ignorant laws that lump her in with “dangerous dogs”.
On the other hand, somebody’s ill-tempered, untrained poodle can be taken anywhere in the country with out a care in the world and would be far more likely to bite a stranger.
Thank you for the welcome...I have been fortunate enough to have many Freepers welcome me.. I was a lurker for years. Some of my best belly laughs have been on FR. A witty group of people.
