A jet of gas spewing from a huge black hole has mysteriously brightened, flaring to 90 times its normal glow.
For seven years the Hubble Space Telescope has been watching the jet, which pours out of the supermassive black hole in the center of the M87 galaxy. It has photographed the strange phenomenon fading and then brightening, with a peak that even outshines M87's brilliant core.
Scientists have dubbed the enigmatic bright blob HST-1, and are so far at a loss to explain its weird behavior.
"I did not expect the jet in M87 or any other jet powered by accretion onto a black hole to increase in brightness in the way that this jet does," said astronomer Juan Madrid of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, who conducted the Hubble study. "It grew 90 times brighter than normal. But the question is, does this happen to every single jet or active nucleus, or are we seeing some odd behavior from M87?"
Many supermassive black holes have jets of material that spray out perpendicularly from the donut-shaped ring of matter falling onto the black hole. These beams of hot gas are thought to result from magnetic field lines that are twisted by the black hole's mass, and propel charged particles outward.
But most rays do not appear to blaze up with such extreme intensity as HST-1. Scientists aren't sure if it is an exceptional case, or if it represents a normal event for black hole jets, which are still not very well understood. In this case, the bright knot of HST-1 is about 214 light-years from the M87 galaxy's core

Particle gravitation theories of the Hoyle-Narlikar type
...????......
We are the latest parasite to inhabit this rock. The next big rock that hits it will be the end of our time, and the begining of the next parasite.

****************************EXCERPT*************************
Since a large amount of Arp's ejected QSOs theory rests on the idea that Narlikar somehow said that general relativity has a solution which allows for a quasi-steady state universe and objects that aquire mass and have an intrinsic redshift:
I have to ask, would not this show up in all sorts of ways and all sorts of places, and not just in the redshift of objects?
Would not a changing constant for G have some visible impact on the universe that we can observe?
Does it do away with singularities?
Thanks.
And if we are not here ...how will we know....and why do we care?
The fifth chapter of Daniel indicates that there is a reality no further away than the length of a man's arm, which is populated by actual beings who have physical substance of some sort, at least when interacting with our reality. It would be presumptuous to assume that realm is going through the exact same changes and time scales as we in this realm.
As a believer in Jesus Christ and His resurrection, it is evident that the 'laws' of the universe we are bound to in this body do not in fact confine the reality to which Jesus went with His physical body when He left the wrapped burial clothes without unwrapping them and the tomb without rolling away the stone.
If one believes the Apostles' stories, Jesus came from and went to this 'other' realm without difficulty. And oddly enough, this other realm is not even portrayed as Heaven, that's a completely 'other' realm of reality!
BTW, it is clear from the Daniel episode that that other realm is aware of our realm, so the approaching less hospitable to our form of physical existence Universe may be readily discernable to the other realm. In fact, those there may already be able to ‘see’ that future.
Ok...thanks.
The plasmoids are moving outward with velocities near c and becoming brighter. Thanks Ernest.
