It’s Official! FReeper Anoreth (since Nov. 29, 2003) is departing the House of Herpets (and other weird critters, like brothers) for the U.S. Coast Guard on June 16, 2009. The upcoming Brother is expected in the first week of June, so at least we’ll be able to get a picture of them together.

Words fail me as I attempt to convey how thrilled we are to have our first Offspring beginning a patriotic and productive adult life. When she’s on a Great Lakes icebreaker in December, I promise to appear sincerely sympathetic.

Everyone have a Guinness in celebration, please!

I’ll have a celebration tomorrow, since I’m not going out today.

Mixed emotions will be the norm, I think!

Let me know if she is in the West Michigan area.

We always go to the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival. Be glad to buy her a Vernors or a Red Pop as she is still under drinking age.

Congratulations again Anoreth, and TC!

May you enjoy fair winds, and a following sea.

I bet Tonk sails with you, too.

I think he's the FReeper Patron Saint of the Coast Guard. :-)

What a great thing! My Dad was in the CG during the War and stayed in the “inactive reserve” “forever” afterward. He never lost his love for that service’ His last command was the USCGC Sorrel. Congratulations and God Bless her!

Wooooooooo Hooooooooooo!

She will be closely following my youngest, who will be standing in the footprints at Parris Island on June 1, 2009.

Maybe they'll be able to wave at each other at some point.

One of my co-workers is retired from the USCG. He LOVED every moment of it.

I will! I will get the Guinness!

And Great Lakes Icrebreakers are heavy duty -—Duty.

I know you have a special bond with Anoreth (I mean all of ‘em of course, but Anoreth is -— Anoreth!) and she will be an incomparable boon to the Coast Guard. They are lucky to get chicklets from the Tax Chick and Der Prinz!

I gave up Beer, Chocolate, Potato Chips, and Coffee for Lent.

I'll have that Guinness for her on Sunday.

And if she *is* going to the Great Lakes for real, let me know.

I live in Minneapolis, not too far from Duluth.

Just show up during one of the two days of summer...

Congrats to her, prayers, up, and God Bless.

...oh, and Happy Good Friday.

Leaving for Good Friday service now, be back later.
