LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 10, 2009) Longtime Washington, D.C., journalist Helen Thomas will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree at the 2009 University of Kentucky Commencement on May 9.
Thomas, a Winchester native, was one of three individuals chosen by the UK Board of Trustees today to receive honorary degrees. Also chosen were engineering scholar Mark E. Davis and University System of Maryland Chancellor William B. Kirwan.
Thomas is being recognized for her role as a trailblazer for women, having served as White House correspondent and later Washington bureau chief for United Press International for four decades. She also was chosen as the first female president of the White House Correspondents Association in 1975 and of the Gridiron Club in 1993. She was president of the Womens National Press Club from 1959 to 1960 and was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in its initial class in 1981.

“Age has not been good to her, just look at her back in the early 70’s”.
So true, she looked like a regular Gibson Girl in her early 70’s.
I bet she wore the same coiff and outfit when she covered Alice Roosevelts wedding.

In that photo, Helen just recieved another honorary degree from x42. Helen was the second person to recieve an honorary degree from x42, who infamously soiled the blue dress of the first recipient during the festivities surrounding her receipt of the first honorary degree.
