I'm not clear on AI's rules as far as that go. Taylor Hicks already had at least one CD out and I'm pretty sure there have been others who would be close to the 'pro' level. I can't fault Adam for growing up in a family that was involved with musical theater, yet it certainly gives him a head start on others with less experience. Similar to Danny whose job was Worship Leader.. great training ground for a contest like AI.
Adam certainly isn't for everyone! I'm a Freddie Mercury (Queen) fan from way back.. his talent not his wardrobe, lol. I can get as engrossed in Freddie Mercury music as I can with Tchaikovsky... I'm weird that way!
Pretty much all of the top AI contestants had CDs before they hit AI, BUT they were all independently produced. They were not released with a major label (with the exception of Carley Whatsherface-with the scary teefs from last season and Michael Johns). An independent CD is like a self-published book, anyone with a few bucks can put one out.
The rules state that you cannot be currently signed to a recording contract. They are purposely vague, IMO.
There was a guy last season who made it to that round where they take the elevator to the big room to see if they made the top 12 (what is that, top 40? I don’t remember). Anyway, he was from Australia and had been in a really popular boyband down there. Tom something. There was a girl from Canada who had an album out and had a bunch of songs on movie soundtracks, who also was cut- I think it was the same season. I thought Katherine McPhee was too professional, too.
I don’t hate Adam (that spot is still reserved for Blake Lewis), he’s just not my cup of tea.
I read somewhere recently that Danny was very sheltered musically so it has been a challenge for him to pick songs each week as he doesn’t know many of them!
The eligibility rules boil down to: must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid U.S. work permit, cannot be under a current recording contract, must be within the specified age range.

Here’s my take on last night. I was not on the “live” thread as we’re back to band rehearsals on Tuesday nights but came on a bit afterwards. As predicted, disco still sucks!
1. Allison Daughtry - Hot Stuff – Great vocals. She clearly out-sings anyone in this thing but I wasn’t totally happy with the slower arrangement. I changed her from Clarkson to Daughtry because she could be this season’s “Daughtry” by getting voted off way too early if the dial idol numbers are accurate. Hopefully the margin of error thing will hold and we’ll keep her for a few more weeks. Disco was not her forte but she did pick a good “rocking” disco song. I loved the outfit. Hard to believe she’s 16.
2. Danny Downey Jr. - September – Boring song, great vocals. Danny has the “popularity” that Allison is lacking right now. He may be the only one to beat out the fag this year.
3. Kris whatshisname - She Works hard For the Money – Interesting version of the song. Will it work or will it backfire. Film at 9pm tonight.
4. Matt Timberlake - Staying Alive – I actually liked it a lot better than last week. I still don’t feel he was “worthy” of the “save.” Oh well….
5. Anoop 7-11 – Like Anoop but not tonight. Boring and he may have cost himself this time.
6. Adam Ram-butt - If I can’t have you – Why do they continue to “pimp” this guys?? He sings OK but he’s too much “over the top.” I hated the arrangement of the song….too slow. I really hope he doesn’t win this because it will be the death in an already dying show.
7. Lil Obama - I’m Every Woman – She’s also VFTW pick for the past few weeks. The Obama voters keep her in every week but I think she may have sang her last off-key notes.
Who will go: Lil and Anoop or Matt.
I fear that if someone like Kris or Allison goes home this week it will have been because of the horrible choice of “saving” Matt last week. I can see either Anoop or Lil getting the lowest votes. The problem is that the second lowest goes home too.

Maybe it's just us ... but last night on “American Idol” it seemed Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson could not hide their disdain for newbie Kara DioGuardi. Watch closely as Kris Allen finishes his performance and Randy tries to weigh in, only to be jock blocked by the new chick in town. The looks between Simon and Randy are priceless.
ROTFL!! OMG! That is too funny!

Next week Matt is gone. The next week it's Allison.
That leaves the final three of Danny, Kris and Adam. Tough call. Those are the best three voices in the competition. Probably comes down to song choice and just one slip-up.
What I want to happen: Kris wins over Danny in the finals. What I'm afraid will happen: Adam over Kris.
Watch..she’ll invite Zero to be the guest star on her first show..
I'm guessing Kris (and Kris' wife) would be more afraid of that.
My "final three" is Adam, Allison, and Kris, personally. Danny is a solid singer, but he lacks any star quality. One of those three will be voted off #4, though... it always happens right about then.
Yeah, I heard about that. I won’t be watching.
Yeah, she’s not very popular.
Simon does the middle finger nose scratch thing quite often and I've often wondered if it might actually mean more than an itch.

However I would say the last 5 standing will be:
1. Adam Lambert-To win
2. Danny Gokey- 1st runner-up
3. Allison
4. Kris
5. Matt
I am pretty close to your position on this, but I don’t think Anoop will go tonight.
If Matt had come out and done something impressive, I think you would probably have been right. IMO he didn’t. His performance last night looked desperate to me. In the fist portion of it, his vocals were rushed. He didn’t do the song justice. Kara and Paula should have been forthright and admitted they were way off base demanding he be saved last week. Instead they protected their hind-sides and gave him decent reviews. Sad really...
What others have postulated, Matt may remain tonight and Anoop or someone else pay the price, that would be terrible. And as much as guys take heat for thinking with their... well, you know, I think Kara and Paula were guilty of something similar last week. And why, I have no idea. Matt just isn’t all that for heaven’s sake.
The ‘judges save’ was reserved for someone who had a chance to win it all, and the fans had mistakenly voted off. Did Matt fit that bill? Not every close...
My fear would be that if Allison, Danny or even Adam would for some reason be voted off tonight, there would not be a way to save them, all because two women couldn’t keep their composure on the show.
If Matt remains and someone else goes, that’s unfortunate. Anoop has a very strong voice. His vocals have been quite good, even if they wouldn’t garner him the top spot. They just haven’t been that creative or original IMO.
I like Allison’s originality, even though her songs begin to sound alike because of her unique voice. That kid has talent. She is definitely a number two or three contestant.
Lil Rounds and Matt have both contributed performances which have disappointed. I was hoping Lil Rounds would step up and really perform. She never did IMO. I’m actually sorry to see that.
Matt just doesn’t have it. He may be a nice guy, but he’s not the American Idol. Anyone who thinks he is, is kidding themselves.
This is what I would think the final five would look like.

3. Allison
4. Kris
5. Anoop
I honestly like both Danny and Allison just about equally, for different reasons. IMO, each stands a chance of being second.
As for Kara jumping the gun last night, in prior shows they have rotated who started first after the performances. Last night for some reason they had Randy go first most of the time. I’m not sure why.
If we’re talking Paula vs Kara, I pick Kara hands down. Paula’s rambling extended remarks are most often embarrassing. When she slept with that contestant years back, I would have canned her on the spot.
It’s my hope she doesn’t return next year. Kara more often than not has some fairly decent comments to make. They’re short, to the point and at least somewhat coherent.
