I’m 40 so I was sorta on the tail end of the variety show era as a kid.
I have very fond memories of watching Carol Burnett with my gram every week.
I absolutely loved Donnie and Marie. Even watched the one with the Mandrell sisters.
It would be fun to see a comeback of those type of shows if they are quality and not trash.

Where were you earlier when I said that season was the worst?!
I mean Jordan is a cute kid with a good voice but her and that doofus Blake in the final? That’s the best there was that season and that’s sad.

I remember the Mandrell Sister’s show! It had to be the very early 80’s. I don’t think it ran for very long.
It seems like the networks can’t figure out the formula to make it work and end up going way too silly.

Yeah, that was incredibly bad. Wasn’t that the season that they hardly showed Hollywood week or any serious auditions and we had no idea who the top 24 even were?
If I remember correctly, there were quite a above decent people who were cut during the long hallway show. They really, really went for style over substance that season.

Big Mounds on deck. I think the judges THOUGHT she was going to be a great singer, and now the bloom is off the rose and she will be subject to more honest judging, her attitude hasn’t helped her either. Sounds like Obama :)
