Wear Sunscreen!!
Cheers!
I wholeheartedly agree with you...but the critics certainly did not. They found it rambling, incoherent, implausible and disconnected. They could not figure out if it was a comedy, a drama or a little of both. I thought the boy who played (and is)an aborigine should have been recognized at a high level at one or more of the many film industry’s tiresome and self-aggrandizing award venues.
I saw it as kind of a throwback to the good old adventue movies of the 50’s and except for one gratuitious use of the “f” word and a mild sex scene, a very good family movie.
He said he would rather watch “Confession of a Shopaholic” twice than see this movie once...
The next time is his movie night pick. He is going to rent the latest Rambo and Die Hard movies..... the things they do for love......
That was the other aspect to this film that I enjoyed - it was a great family film. And really, it seems that it is this type of movie that is in demand by so many. It is not surprising how well family films do at the box office - in this case, this film would have had benefit if presents and sold to the public as a family film. I must say, I put this on my “best” list for sure, right there with a movie I recall of two tigers (Two Brothers), but I also see an epic story in this film that makes it a recommendation for all who can appreciate quality content, good production in both artistic format and acting, and in the character set of the actors in the film.
Again, if you have not seen it, I would recommend all at FreeRepublic to check this one out and invite your entire family to view. With the exception of the one “f” word (and I would have said the same to the bastard it was directed at myself) this movie can bring an historical and wonderful story into your home without the need for “R” rated type sex and violence of Hollywood.
I say three cheers to the Aussies on this one.
By the way, we just called into Australia because of the cyclone. Worst in 30 years they say.
Perhaps there wasn’t enough Hollywood style sex and violence for your son in this movie.
BTTT. Just watched it and thought it was great. Really great score and Nicole Kidman was fantastic.
Me and your son are in the same boat. The deal was that in exchange for TAKEN’, I had to watch BRIDE WARS.
I really wanted to hang myself after watching Bride Wars. Good thing, I recorded UFC 96 and watched it afterwards.
I plan on going and visiting that wonderful country in several short weeks.
I am glad you saw and enjoyed. I strongly disagree with some of the critics and jokesters who put it down, because the visuals were fantastic. The film was alive with story and emotion. And there was a lot of thought put into it, the angles of the action, a need for historical analysis that projected well into the plot. A good way to take some time to visit another place and another time. It was also a good family romance movie to boot with the cowboy style action.
See you all tomorrow, it’s time to go to bed with a good heart after a great movie experience.
I have to say that when the movie started, I groaned because I thought I was going to be lectured to for 3 hours on the evils of colonialism in Australia - but the movie really was fun to watch with relatively little lecturing going on.
I’ll never forgive Baz Luhrman for the ten minutes of Moulin Rouge I endured. He never gets another chance from me after that horror show.
This was wonderful on the big screen! Great film.
A great movie indeed. I gave it about an 8 on a 1-10 scale (I’m a tough grader) and I my wife liked it even better than a I did. I do not understand anyone who says it’s a terrible movie. Believe me, I’ve seen my share of horrible, awful, and terrible movies. I’m getting a bunch of free movie channels right now from DirecTV, so I’ve been watching a lot of movies. I’ve been extremely disappointed with the fare and wouldn’t pay for these premium channels even if I had more money than I knew what to do with. Like I said, I’ve seen a whole bunch of movies lately that are absolute garbage, and like I said, “Australia” is a great movie.
I plan on going and visiting that wonderful country in several short weeks.
Where about in Australis are u going?
Mel
I would not take the word of anyone under 30 as to what is a good movie or not. They have grownup wit fast paced action dramas. Explosions, F words and sex. They have not seen many movies tha take their time with character and plot development and don’t have the patience to sit through a movie and wait.
Mel
I just thought it was funny that he had called me that day about this movie, and I happen to think it is neat he and his girlfriend have movie night and they take turns picking what they watch......
