I wholeheartedly agree with you...but the critics certainly did not. They found it rambling, incoherent, implausible and disconnected. They could not figure out if it was a comedy, a drama or a little of both. I thought the boy who played (and is)an aborigine should have been recognized at a high level at one or more of the many film industry’s tiresome and self-aggrandizing award venues.

I saw it as kind of a throwback to the good old adventue movies of the 50’s and except for one gratuitious use of the “f” word and a mild sex scene, a very good family movie.

LOL My son called me today to warn me about this movie. He watched it with his girlfriend and when he thought it was going to end it continued for another hour and 15 min and then when he went to shut it off because again, he thought it was over it continued for another 20 min.....

He said he would rather watch “Confession of a Shopaholic” twice than see this movie once...

The next time is his movie night pick. He is going to rent the latest Rambo and Die Hard movies..... the things they do for love......

BTTT. Just watched it and thought it was great. Really great score and Nicole Kidman was fantastic.

We saw it, regretfully. Except for enjoying the scenery and Hugh Jackman (he is a hunk) this was an awful movie. It was a chickflix trying to be a rough and tumble western. I guess they tried to make it all things to all people but they missed the mark. The child was great and the scenery and did I mention Hugh Jackman with his shirt off? Otherwise it was one of the worst movies I have EVER seen and it was so much too long that I couldn't get up when it was over.

I’ll never forgive Baz Luhrman for the ten minutes of Moulin Rouge I endured. He never gets another chance from me after that horror show.

A great movie indeed. I gave it about an 8 on a 1-10 scale (I’m a tough grader) and I my wife liked it even better than a I did. I do not understand anyone who says it’s a terrible movie. Believe me, I’ve seen my share of horrible, awful, and terrible movies. I’m getting a bunch of free movie channels right now from DirecTV, so I’ve been watching a lot of movies. I’ve been extremely disappointed with the fare and wouldn’t pay for these premium channels even if I had more money than I knew what to do with. Like I said, I’ve seen a whole bunch of movies lately that are absolute garbage, and like I said, “Australia” is a great movie.

Wife and son saw it ... and hated it. Their comment: a great idea that suffered from a trite, formulaic treatment ... and an apparent lack of any idea of how to end it.

You can also watch Rabbit-Proof Fence based on a true story about Australia's aboriginal integration program of the 1930s. The extras on the DVD have the actual women this movie was based on. This is a great movie.
