OMAHA, Neb. — A man who tried to mellow out his cat by stuffing her into a homemade bong is facing criminal charges—and catcalls from animal lovers. Authorities cited a 20-year-old man on suspicion of animal cruelty Sunday after catching him smoking marijuana from a contraption that had a cat stuffed inside its 12-inch by 6-inch base.

Speaking of catnip, the active ingredient in it is also present in valerian root capsules sold OTC as a sleep aid.

The day I found out this factoid I just had to go home and test the theory on my cat. Results: She went ape, if only for a brief moment.

I am an avid beer homebrewer, and have read numerous times that cannabis is a cousin to the hop plant, which is a pivotal ingredient in beer.

As an aside: I saw many times as a youth my friends blowing pot smoke into the faces of their dogs. The dogs did not like it but got more playful a minute later, and hungry! When I got my kitten, pictured above, I made a promise that I would never blow pot smoke in her face. I believe that would constitute abuse (cats have a super sensitive sense of smell, and I just love her too much).

Oddly though, she just loves to nibble on the pot plants as they are growing. Not the part of the plant with the "active ingredient", but rather the big leaves, that have little or no THC.

Oh, and everyone is correct: THAT IS NO BONG!

Actually, it's ricin from castor beans, but curiously, those plants are legal to grow and possess, as is hemlock, poisonous mushrooms, various chemicals, household cleansers, etc.

Hemp was grown for making rope, which was a naval store, and, therefore, a strategically vital product. Hemp has little THC. And yes it is garbage, just as all drugs used for getting loaded are garbage. Legalizing this stuff will turn out to be a disaster, as it has everywhere it has been tried.
