Crazy Horse
Samuel took a stone . . . and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” —1 Samuel 7:12

In 1876, the Sioux leader Crazy Horse joined forces with Sitting Bull to defeat General Custer and his army at Little Bighorn. Not much later, though, starvation caused Crazy Horse to surrender to US troops. He was killed while trying to escape. Despite this sad conclusion to his life, he became a symbol of heroic leadership of a threatened people.

Today in the Black Hills of South Dakota, he is commemorated with a monument being carved into a mountain—the Crazy Horse Memorial. When complete, it will be 641 feet long and 563 feet high. It will show Crazy Horse riding a galloping horse, pointing the way to his people.

Thousands of years ago, the prophet Samuel used a much smaller memorial stone in a significant way. In the midst of a crucial battle with the Philistines, Samuel called out to God on Israel’s behalf. The Lord answered his prayer (1 Sam. 7:10). In gratitude, Samuel set up a stone “and called its name Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us’” (v.12).

Samuel has set an example for our spiritual journey. We too can use tangible reminders of God’s faithfulness to help us worship and serve Him. It’s good to remember “thus far the Lord has helped us.”

Putting It Into Practice
  *  Keep a spiritual journal and record God’s blessings.
  *  Write answers to prayer in your journal.
  *  Tell a friend what God has done in your life.

Gratitude is the memory of a glad heart.

Breakfast is on the table!!!

As the old Jewish saying goes, "Eat, eat, you need strength to worry!" Bless this day and all who seek for the truth in her. (Hot cereal is on the side table.)

On this site are lovely photos of a loved parent being cared for with true respect.
This wondrously human story is a joy, and I thank you for the sharing of the pictures.
We oft forget the other side of that coin, and the following poem is about that.
This may be a downer of a poem for some, and if so, I do not apologize.
A poet sees and writes, often of the lovely, but sometimes of the not so nice.
The power of a poem is not in the words, but in the image it may create in our own soul.
Be willing to place yourself in a different aspect, consider the world from the other side.

Like A Fine Wine Forgotten

She sits in a silent room and stares out the window
time passes oh so slowly for the lonely you know
a year between each tick and tock of the clock
and the present is as weighted as a granite rock

The seasons pass by the glass like a bad TV show
and she watches the slow progress as time flows
left behind by family and friends now gone ahead
she sits by the window and cries there on her bed

No one wants to hear her hard earned wisdom true
for them, she's too old to know anything of the new
and so they leave her to the silent wait of discard
and she endures in silence this last lesson oh so hard

In an age where aging is a crime and you are outcast
the chance to share and care is submerged damn fast
and so both sides lose out in the silent bitter end
and this we repeat with cruel ease like human sins

He sits in a silent room and stares out the window
time passes oh so slowly for the lonely you know
a year between each tick and tock of the clock
and the present is as weighted as a granite rock

How beautiful!

Today I woke up to a gorgeous morning, the sun shining bright.

DAWN
An Angel, robed in spotless white,
Bent down and kissed the sleeping night.
Night woke to blush; the sprite was gone.
Men saw the blush and called it Dawn.

Cute.

I have Victorian scrap albums from long ago, mostly reproductions that used to be on sale. I have not seen them lately. They are like stickers but without the clue. I have not yet figured out how to post photos here. When I have the time, I will scan some of the Victorian scrap and post them.

Doggone it! Forgot to center my graphic. I hope the whole day doesn't go like this.

Happy Monday to all!

Pretty bird and poem anyway!

Thank you both. This day just keeps getting worse. Now our hot water heater for the two showers is on the blink. Of course, the one for the half bath and kitchen is working fine. Only the one we use for the showers has died on us. So, I guess we need to call and have it replaced. Jk re-lit the pilot, but it keeps going out.

But, the good news is, we bought our fifth wheel yesterday! YIPPEE! I am anxious to start equipping it will all the necessary "stuff".

Since I will be gone most of the day - thought I would throw three ingredients in the crockpot for dinner tonight.

SHREDDED CHICKEN TEX-MEX

2 or 3 chicken breasts, skinned and boned
2 10 oz.cans Ro-Tel Original tomatoes w/green chili
1 packet of Taco Seasoning

Cook on low for six hours

When done, the chicken shreds easily for tacos, enchiladas, nachos, taco salad, chimichangas, burritos, or whatever you may want to use it for. It is DELICIOUSLY perfect - and so simple to make!

I gave my daughter this recipe many years ago. She makes it often, when they have dinner guests, and they ALWAYS beg for the recipe.

I like the sound of this, but the products mentioned I haven’t seen up here in Minnesota. What sort of substitutes might you suggest?

Tell us, tell us!

Is it the one with the slide-out? Is the bed a ‘true’ queen size? Do you have pictures? Oh, I miss having an RV. I’ve even thought of buying one and parking it under the trees where I have water and electric hook-up......that way, if the electricity ever goes out - I can use it for heat or air, cooking surface and sink.

When one of my water heaters goes out - it is ALWAYS the one for the shower or bath. Never the kitchen or laundry room. LOL

MMmmmmmmmmm, thank you, kind chef JOHNN! Looks wonderful - and I was so pleased to see the hot chocolate Malt-O-Meal, with cream on the side! You have the best menu! (I even found the biscuits and sausage gravy at the end of the buffet!)

That sounds simple and quick and delicious! I don't know that we can get the Rp-Tel Original tomatoes though. I can't recall ever seeing them in the store, but I wasn't looking for them specifically.

I like quick and easy dinner ideas!
