Grammy award-winning singer and Academy award-winning actress Cher told CNSNews.com that living under Republican rule almost killed" her, and she does not understand why anyone would want to be a Republican.
She also said that President Barack Obamas intelligence and spirit are so great he will be able to do more than anyone could possibly do.
His intelligence is so great and his spirit is so great, I believe he will be able to do as much if not more than anyone could possibly do, Cher told CNSNews.com at the Declare Yourself inaugural ball.
I just think hes totally the right person at this time in our history," she said. "He brings something more in his spirit than maybe another president could be even with the same intelligence. Theres something about him that brings more with his spirit, and thats what Americans need right now. Republicans almost killed me.
When asked to explain how Republicans somehow killed her, Cher was not specific.
You know what? I have so I try to be charitable and there are some really good Republicans, but I just dont understand how anyone would want to be a Republican. I just cant figure it. I dont understand, she said. If youre poor, if youre any kind of minority gay, black, Latino, anything. If youre not a rich I dont know. If youre not a rich born-again-Christian, I dont get it.
Cher also said President Obama will not end the war in Iraq right away.
I think as soon as he can. I dont think it will be easy. It would be kind of simplistic to think thats going to happen right away, she said.
Cher rose to fame in 1965 as a member of the pop/rock duo "Sonny & Cher" with her future husband Sonny Bono. They are best known for their hits, "Love Is Strange" and "I Got You Babe." Cher won an Academy Award for her performance in the 1987 film "Moonstruck." She also won a Grammy award for her 1998 solo album, "Believe."
k, I only ever heard of the 2 ... am waaaaaaaay out of the celeb loop.
I DO remember Cher giving a eulogy at Sonny’s funeral. Must have killed her to be in that church.
Cher should go back to wherever she came from, if that’s possible.
Surrounded by those eeeevill Republicans...I imagine so /sarc
She seems to have gone overboard accepting her only daughter’s lesbianism, became the darling of the gay set, and now cannot tolerate others who don’t promote the gay agenda.
Why shouldn’t she, when gay men are among her biggest fans...there is always a Queen Cher at every gay parade!
to be honest .. I have never attended a gay parade. And plan to keep it that way ;)
LOL! Think that you might want to ask JimRob about that, as Cher came from Fresno!
If you took the average education level of most people in Hollywood, you'd be lucky if it was a high school diploma. Add to that, they make their living off of "feeling" and making other people "feel" -- "thinking" just isn't their realm.
Problem is that Hollywood celebs are given a platform for their "thoughts" as though, their thoughts on politics are actually worth something. I'd rather hear the local "the Vegetable Guy" share his thoughts on ending the Fed than hear celebrities talk about their politics. It's just too embarrassing to watch.

Nothing could kill that woman. She has enough preservatives in her body that a stake through the heart, holy water, wolfsbane, and several crucifixes wouldn’t even make her burp.
It almost killed her? too bad it didn’t.
She sounds like someone who just got though smoking some funny weed.
Nah, I have her CD of her Farewell Tour and it's really great. Good aging chick video -- buy it for your wife!.
But that doesn't mean that I'd listen to a thing she has to say politically, because she's completely out of her depth there.
