That wouldn’t make the point he sorely needs to learn, my friend.

The suit said it was Sanchez's third shot on the hole. The marker was 150 yards from the green. So, after the two-stroke penalty for interfering with a ball in play, he is sitting five hitting six. Case closed.

I know you have to play it where it landed, so... would that call for a wedge?

Why does only go part way?
Sue the maker of the club, the ball, the maker of the marker and himself for being such an idiot.
In my experience, just aim for the marker and you’ll be safe.

Reminds me of the foursome composed of a doctor, an attorney, a minister and an accountant who would play every Tuesday morning. One day they got behind a foursome that was taking FOREVER to play. Hole after hole they were spending 30 to 45 minutes per hole. Finally one of the trailing foursome got the attention of a manager and demanded to know why the group ahead was taking so long. The manager apologized and explained they were blind, had been blinded several years earlier when a golf car battery exploded, and the course let them play for free as a nice gesture.
The doctor expressed his apology for being so insensitive and offered to have a fellow eye doc take a look at their injuries.
The account also apologized and asked if he could work with the course accountants to get the course the best tax treatment for their kindness to the disabled.
The pastor expressed an apology and would certainly add the blind golfers to the prayer list at the church where he ministered.
The attorney asked, “Why can’t they play at night?”

There's NO WAY that can be a real story, because no attorney in the entire world has that much common sense. If it said engineer, the story would have far more plausibility.

Yes, the lawyer would interpret the free game for the blind as an admission of culpability by the golf course and recommend his services for the law suite.

Did he take a “mulligan” ?

Man his second shot must have been crap. Not really. Tee shot into the woods, second shot is a punch out of the woods. Or tee shot into deep ruff and second shot is a wedge back into the fairway.
Still, all those yard markers are removeable much like the rope lines at pga events and the rope lines preventing carts on the greens. He needs to sue himself for negligence in not removing it if it is in his line.
