Pilots have apparently fired upon the unidentified objects without success since the 1980s, according to Nick Pope, who used to run the Ministry of Defence's UFO project.
If this is true, kinda dangerous getting it on with a race that has lightspeed capability.

Distraction, the UFO stories always red lines when the political class gets into trouble. And this time they got heap big trouble.

Kind of like telling a caveman to throw a rock at an F-22.

Earlier this month, residents in the Lincolnshire Wolds were left puzzled by the destruction of a wind turbine within hours of several sightings of strange glowing orbs.Probably caused by nutty RAF pilots firing at UFOs.

You guys are missing the point. Brown finally found a target he is willing to engage. Next he will declare a great victory over the Easter Bunny.

This is a bad idea. We have already pi$$ed off the Martians to the extent that they shot down a couple of the probes we sent up there to check them out, then (at least, according to the Pepsi commercial), they jacked up one of the rovers we sent up there and stole the wheels.
The LAST thing we need is for the Brits to get them REALLY riled at us. I shudder to think what they will do!!! On a semi-serious note, I wonder if those blokes across "the pond" have given any thought to where the ordnance they fire at UFOs will eventually land when it falls back to earth?? There are laws of physics to be observed which this policy seems to ignore.

Maybe they hit the proper targets?

Actually, some people fired on Flying Saucers in the early 1970’s. They just never publicized it.

Good idea, shoot at something you can’t identify and hope it isn’t some poor sap in his Cessna.
