Specter Offers Support to Holder for Attorney General(Now Obama can cover his skeletons)
Foxnews ^ | 1/27/09

Sen. Arlen Specter says he will vote for Eric Holder as the next attorney general, paving the way for an almost certain confirmation. The Pennsylvania Republican had challenged Holder's record as a Justice Department official during the Clinton administration. Previously Specter had called Holder's judgment "inexplicable" for his role in controversial pardons granted by Clinton, including that of fugitive financier Marc Rich. On Tuesday, on the eve of a Senate Judiciary Committee vote, Specter told reporters he will support Holder's nomination. Given previously stated GOP support for Holder, his confirmation now appears all but certain.

We’ve all known that for a long time. He was going to vote against Holder, however. I wonder what made him change his mind. Pressure, bribery?

Specter is a disgrace, has been for many years, and obviously got a call from McCain telling him he needs to fall back in line like the good little RINO he has always been and support the president’s nomination.

It's not a government anymore.
It is all theater.

With sleazy politicians (is that redundant?) it is either extortion or bribery.

Let's tell the truth about it.

Specter wouldn't be part of this problem if it weren't for the NRA. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt us (NRA members, that is) too bad.

When hasn’t that brain damaged a$$hole not been a traitor to the republican party?

BTW... I am sick of referring to these jerks as RINO’s, it’s too polite, it’s too PC, and it’s inaccurate.

At best, they are “Party Traitors”, and should be branded as such.

“When hasn’t that brain damaged a$$hole not been a traitor to the republican party?”

Republican party or Conservative movement? Big difference.

What do you mean, “Cover his skeletons”?

Apparently no one gives a crap about his past.

I know, and I know the difference. Although, at times I wouldn’t agree with there being a “movement”, rather, core principles, strong beliefs and a chosen way of life.

“Previously Specter had called Holder’s judgment “inexplicable” for his role in controversial pardons”

So, at what point did it all become “explicable,” Arlen????

None of the nominees will be rejected. They all pass with a minimum of fuss.

Obama is more scary than Clinton ever was. The Chicago way trumps Dixie Mafia.

We’re so screwed.

"Let's tell the truth about it.

While we're telling the truth about things, let's state the whole truth. While the NRA's support for Specter (such as it was) is not something that makes us leap for joy, it was hardly the deciding factor in his election. There were many, many factors involved. (Why don't you blame the GOP for pushing such a RINO in the first place?) The NRA's involvement was only a small part of a much larger picture.

Joe, to be clear about it, I do give the GOP credit for pushing such a RINO to begin with, and I agree with you that it's probably a bigger thing than the NRA's support of Specter. The biggest contributor, of course, would be George Bush endorsing him in the primary.

The point I'm hoping to make is that the NRA, which I'm a member of, seems to sometimes be beholden to certain politial loyalties that might sometimes supersede their commitment to gun owners.

Case in point, there was a better candidate available according to either GOP "conservative" priorities or NRA "2nd amendment" priorities, but Washington beltway priorities seem to have carried the day in the case of the GOP and the NRA. My assumption is that it has to do with favors being called in, etc, in much the same way that John McCain pulled in endorsement after endorsement from prominenet Republicans at just the right time before the convention - my own Senator Tom Coburn among them.

As Republicans, when / IF we "adjust" the Republican Party, God willing, we as NRA members need to also do a little housecleaning, too. For now, obviously, our challenge is to make it thru the next two years and then the next two years after that with our rights intact.

I'm hoping for the NRA and the GOP to step up, but I know better to expect anything good to come from Arlen Specter. He's "playing ball" in the beltway. That's what's gotten us where we are now, especially from the GOP, and unfortunately the NRA "could have done better" in this case as well.

If we get thru this intact, we (the NRA - I am the NRA just as you are) can learn from our mistake and not repeat it next time.

Also, Joe, the fact remains that if Specter is going to support Holder he's betraying gun owners, period, and the result will speak for itself in due time. Frankly, that's of particular interest to the NRA.

As in, "if we live thru this let's not make the same mistake again."

I can certainly agree with that sentiment.
