This is how I spent my day, too pretty to watch anything on TV!
This is an immature bird, I'm only 90% on the ID, several of the hawks have similar young.
I got through a whole day without being busted by a rentacop!

We have several nesting pairs here in WI. That sure looks like a Coopie, but the breast plumage tells all. Nice looking raptor.

I think that’s a red tail hawk
Cooper’s are more gray w/ yellow eyes
(Had a Cooper’s hawk fly right into the side of my house last spring with a mourning dove in its talons. He was stunned, but managed to fly off w/ the dove when I made a rescue attempt)

As always, just beautiful. I was so mad when the rentacop told you not to take pictures. Shaking my head at that cop. Thanks

Thanks, I wish I could travel, I've about caught everything around here. I'm on a first name basis with most of the birds in St. John's County!
I looked at pics of the other similar sized raptors, not really many decent quality images online, and this one fits the immatureCooper's slot better than anywhere else.

That's simply too beautiful, Swampsniper. A beautiful bird like that in a sky so blue reaffirms once again my faith in God.

A Panasonic FZ-30. I’ve about worn out another camera, it’s starting to act like a Microsoft operating system, bursts of electronic insanity without warning!

Those are some outstanding pictures. My wife and I like to go out and spot hawks on our week-end drives. Usually we see about 15 to 20 in an afternoon. We get Cooper hawks, lots of redtails, sharp shinned, lots of kestrels. Occasional merlin’s and harrier’s.
I’m not the I.D. expert though.

Great job. I used to take pictures, with a Pentax K1000. I haven’t used one of the new digitals, except for the pocket one I use for trips and such. I was thinking about getting back into nature shots.
