Looking back after a day I enjoyed the lovely elegiacal ending on Pleistocene Earth, with what amounted to curtain calls for all of the major characters. As to the question whether what has happened before will happen again, that is the argument that the modern Baltar and Number Six angels were arguing about at the end. (And did you ever think that the series would end with those two walking off into the sunset without it being a downbeat ending.)

Should be noted that such capability (not just space travel but also FTL capability) was voluntarily surrendered when the Colonials and skinjob Cylons deliberately shipwrecked themselves on "our" Earth by sending their entire fleet into the Sun.
A loose end: Adm. Adama has his Raptor that Mme. Pres dies in, and he lands where he buries her and presumably builds his cabin and lives out his life. What happens to his ship they never say.

You didn’t get it... God is Jimi Hendrix! I can’t believe none of you have put that together. You are all looking too deeply into this. :)

There is also his Viper to be accounted for. However if you can believe the special it's in Chief's garage.
Great ending for a great show. So say we all.

I will rent the series and start from the beginning.Just be aware: it all starts with a miniseries. Rent that first, then get the episodes of the first season.
BSG had the most amazing start (with the miniseries) and first season of a show, ever. (In my opinion.) The show made some major miscues down the road (as well as having some great episodes), but I stuck with it just to see how the events of that tremendous start would all end up.
I couldn't agree more...
You can get a combination Mini-Series/First season DVD set, as well as buying them separately, so be careful. This is what really pissed me off with the later seasons, like 2.0 and 2.5 nonsense, where they should have just released the entire season in one shot, but decided to screw us over and charge more.
But the Mini-Series drew me in, and that first season nailed me to the floor, especially episodes "33" and "Water." WOW!!!!!

According to the show, 150,000 years have passed and "new humanity" have yet to regain anything even close to what was lost. And we're a lot closer to "AI" than we are to interstellar space travel, which is what caused so many problems in the first place... Remember, that's why the "old earth" was destroyed before the "humans/cylons" could be warned by the "Final Five." It could easily all happen again!

I am almost done with S2 and will start S2.5 tomorrow. :) So far, my initial interpretations from the finale are still holding true.

The problem with “Water” was that it seems that water is a scarce resource in the universe. But if you find some, you’re good for 4+ years....

they did it that way cause you only get 20 episodes per year rather than twentysomething more and reruns in the summer
they just don’t show them that way anymore

The problem with Water was that it seems that water is a scarce resource in the universe. But if you find some, youre good for 4+ years. If you remember the episode, Galactica had advanced recycling capabilities, and it was completely self sufficient for their own use. The problem was that they also had to supply a number of ships that weren't. Plus, don't forget that over time, they lost more than 20% of the "fleet," which would make the remaining water last longer.

Yeah, I’d say there’s more than just an accidental reference to Iraq in S3. Is RDM a lefty?

Yeah, he’s left of center - but he also spent time in Naval ROTC while in college, serving one summer on some kind of a USN vessel.

Got it. I didn’t want to state the obvious, but Col. Tigh looks like a certain someone I voted for last year. Same temperament too, it seems.

The season 3 episode “Exodous, Part 2” rocks so hard -McTigh especially - that it makes up for the lefty stuff that happens on New Caprica.
