Sad news. My husband’s parents were friends of his sister Henriette Wyeth and her husband Peter Hurd. A really talented bunch of people.

In this Nov. 15, 2007 file photo, painter Andrew Wyeth, of Chadds Ford, Pa., right, laughs with President Bush as he receives the 2007 National Medal of Arts during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House in Washington. Wyeth has died at the age of 91 at his home outside Philadelphia according to Hillary Holland, a spokeswoman for the Brandywine River Museum. (AP Photo/Gerald Herbert, file)

I lived for a number of years not far from Chadds Ford and was an huge admirer of his work. I’d say save Nick Santoleri, Wyeth was my favorite artist from that area.

Truly - Wyeth is the crowning figure of 20th century American art.

Such a shame. Went to the museum and saw his home some years ago. Very private man. Loved his work. He is greatly admired by two family members who are watercolorists.
He was known to nip into the museum on occasion, incognito, and have a look around (so the story goes). RIP.

A lovely painting called "Around the Corner." I've had this print hanging in my home for so many years. There's something about this work, and so many of his paintings, that evokes such a gentle look at life. He made the everyday extraordinary.

Sad to hear about him passing.
If it wasn’t for mentions of Wyeth in the Peanuts comic strips, I would have no idea who he was. Charles Schultz must have liked his work. Just those references had me take a look at his paintings when I was younger.

One of my favorite artists. I read his biography and several books as well as going to the Chadds Ford museum. I think he is a conservative, politically. The only presidents to honor him have been Republicans!
I received a book about him for Christmas, where he made comments on a number of his paintings and what he was thinking. One was entitled "The Liberal" and his comment was "This is a young lady who works for me at Chadds Ford. Interesting sort. I'm not sure what to make of her. Intelligent. Doesn't miss a trick. Blue eyes. Quick. Will snap right back at you. Her family comes from Washington and was associated, somehow, with the FBI. She's a liberal-politically-and she sat there completely within herself, just like a liberal."
