Katharine McPhee guest stars on an upcoming episode of CSI: NY playing – what else – a singer, and PEOPLE has an exclusive sneak peek. The American Idol Season 5 runner-up is pictured alongside the show's star, Gary Sinise, at the Feb. 18 shoot on the CBS Radford Lot in Studio City, Calif. McPhee, 24, takes on the role of a crime victim who resorts to murder as revenge. The episode is set to air in mid-April on CBS.
My assessment: If she can act, the McGorgeous, McClassy McPhee may become the next breakout movie star whose career was launched by American Idol, following in the footsteps of Jennifer Hudson.
Our very own Katharine McPhee has matured into a confident, sexy-but-classy performer. Recently PBS has been airing "Chris Botti: Live in Boston" (with the Boston Pops). Kat was one of the performers invited to sing with Botti, a masterful latter-day Harry James type of musician. Kat's performance of Cole Porter's classic "I've Got You Under My Skin" was flirty, sexy, cool and quite good. Plus she looks absolutely stunning, and, for you guys, very leggy. :)

In addition to her upcoming appearance on CSI: NY, Kat is currently in production on her first feature film. If this girl can act, I predict she will become a major star.
You know, I think, career wise, losing AI may have been best for her.

Ken, I think your assessment is totally accurate. McPhee's style is a throwback to an earlier time, as her complete comfort singing Cole Porter demonstrates. Her style, looks and voice are not good fits for the pop and pop-rock music of today. She's a throwback to the glamorous female stars of the 1940's. Plus, she started out in musical theater before auditioning for Idol, and she could never quite get the theater out of her system while on Idol. That's what caused her to lose the title, in my opinion.
If her acting turn on CSI: NY -- as a murderer, no less -- and in that upcoming film, show that she has real talent, I believe Kat is on her way to big-time stardom. The only thing she has to demonstrate is acting talent. She has everything else necessary to be a big-time leading lady.
Kelly Clarkson tops UK singles chart
Kelly Clarkson topped the singles chart with My Life Would Suck Without You, which rocketed up from last week’s number 103.
She pushed reigning chart queen Lily Allen down to five with The Fear.
