I sense intelligence and substance in Nick, and leave open the possiblity that he’s a highly talented “original”... a square peg who doesn’t fit neatly in AI’s round holes but who, given an opportunity, could surprise us all.

If he merely reprises his Norman schtick next time, I’ll be surprised and disappointed, and, hopefully, he’ll be gone. But right now, Nick’s a mystery to me, and I’d like to see how the story turns out.

I will say that he does have a good voice and does seem to be in control of all his mental faculties, unlike Tatiana (who has a good voice, but is about as stable as a radioactive isotope).

Normally they don’t let people like him through this far. A few years ago there was Scooter Girl (she rode a scooter all the time) and she was kind of wacky, too. They told her that she had to make up her mind on if she was a singer or a comedian and cut her during Hollywood Week.

Here’s a bit of Felica Barton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ2Alf7soGM

I’m glad Felicia is in. Joanne forgot the lyrics in two separate settings in Hollywood. That should have been enough to choose someone else for the top 36 imo.

I’m glad she’s gone. She was a mess in Hollywood week and didn’t deserve to go to the top 36 on that basis alone. Add all of her other baggage on top of that, and it’s a good thing for AI that they finally dumped her.

I’ll remember that. The judge gave a great speech to us though and he said that if you are going to have an excuse, it better be heart or brain surgery because otherwise you will stay. He also talked about how soldiers are living and what they gave up....and to keep that in mind when they ask him to be excused. Great judge.

Question: IIRC, on all previous AI seasons, IIRC, the initial top 10 or top 12 were always divided equally as to guys abd gals....(ignoring those who are GLBT)

Under this season's format..in theory they could end up with twelve of the same sex. Wonder how this will play out, or if it will affect the judge's choice of wild cards....

From my #3365

Similar to the show’s previous seasons, American Idol’s eighth-season semifinalists were selected earlier this month at a special taping in which the final 50 contestants from the Hollywood Week round which took place in November were flown back to California to learn whether they’d been selected as one of this season’s Top 36 semifinalists.

However unlike other recent seasons, American Idol’s broadcasts of the eighth season’s Hollywood Week round will run for two weeks, not one.

American Idol’s Hollywood Week coverage will begin with next week’s one-hour Tuesday and Wednesday broadcasts and continue with the following week’s one-hour Tuesday broadcast. Then, on Wednesday, February 11, Fox will air a special two-hour broadcast in which the final 50 contestants will face their “final judgement” and the season’s Top 36 semifinalists will be formally revealed.

Idol’s eighth season is the first season to ever feature 36 semifinalists and the first season since the show’s 2004 third season to utilize a “Wild Card” semifinals round. Idol had previously featured 24 semifinalists since its fourth season in 2005. Prior to that, Idol’s second and third seasons had featured 32 semifinalists while its first season had featured 30 semifinalists.

Once the semifinalists are revealed, they will be grouped into three groups of twelve and Idol will begin three weeks of broadcasts in which twelve semifinalists will perform during two-hour pre-taped Tuesdays at 8PM ET/PT performance episodes and the results of the subsequent home viewer voting will be revealed during live one-hour results shows airing Wednesdays at 8PM ET/PT.

At the conclusion of each results show, the male and female semifinalists who received the highest number of home viewers votes for their previous night’s performance will instantly become a Top 12 finalist. In addition, another semifinalist that had received the next-highest number of votes after the performance episode — regardless of whether he or she is male or female — will also become a finalist.

Then on Thursday, March 5, Fox will air a special “Wild Card” performance episode in which each semifinalist group’s highest remaining votegetter who didn’t already automatically advance to the finals will get a second chance to perform along with several additional semifinalists that the judges will select.

After all the “Wild Card” semifinalists perform, the judges — not the show’s home viewers — will immediately select three of them to complete the season’s twelve finalists.

American Idol’s eighth-season Top 12 finalists will then take the stage for the first time on Tuesday, March 10, with one finalist’s journey coming to an end the following night.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT

The following link tells who the top 36 (allegedly) are: The site that posted them got the top 36 right last year, so there is a high probability that the list is correct.

American Idol: Big Surprise Coming When Show Reaches Top 12

http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2009/01/19/american-idol-big-surprise-coming-when-show-reaches-top-12/

top12-american-idol

With American Idol season 8 underway and many announcements being made of changes this season, Mike Darnell, president of alternative entertainment for FOX revealed that there are a couple more surprises in store for American Idol viewers this season. In an interview with TV Week, Mike Darnell said, “There’s a big surprise coming when we get to the top 12, but I can’t reveal it right now.” He said even the contestants will be surprised!

Some other changes revealed for season 8 are the contestants are going to live in a house instead of a mansion and there will be more behind the scenes footage taped. So if anything happens between the contestants…like sparks flying, we will be able to see some of it. “We’re hoping to get more of who they are, more of the reality version, to be honest with you. It makes the show tick,” Mike Darnell said.

Mike Darnell also told TV Week that Kelly Clarkson will appear on the show in a couple of weeks and that only big named musicians will be included as mentors this season.

So, American Idol may look a little bit like a musical version of Big Brother this season and forget about seeing the likes of Dolly Parton or Neil Diamond as mentors. If the show is trying to appeal to a younger crowd they will probably bring on Super Mega stars like Rhianna or Usher!

It probably will affect their wildcard choices, IMO. They will try to balance it out.

American Idol: The Joanna Pacitti Scandal Continues

http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2009/02/07/american-idol-the-joanna-pacitti-scandal-continues/

joanna-pacitti

American Idol contestant, Joanna Pacitti is still in the spotlight this week. This time there are rumors that she has close connections with not one, but two American Idol executives.

Joanna Pacitti is not new to the music industry and there was no denying that when she tried out for season 8 of American Idol. She has already released an album, starred in a MTV documentary and has had her music featured in both movies and on TV. When she made it through to the Hollywood round the rumors began about American Idol fixing the competition and there were also questions as to whether the contest should be open to already seasoned singers like Joanna Pacitti.

This week new information is being released and according to Star magazine her ties to American Idol executives Michelle Young and Roger Widynowskithe from 19 Entertainment, the company that produces American Idol, gives her an edge over the other contestants.

According to a Star magazine insider, Joanna Pacitti has referred to Michelle as her “manager” and “best friend,” and credited Roger with “helping me get where I am today.” Plus, the three of them even lived in the same Los Angeles apartment complex for several years.

She was in the touring company of Annie a few years ago, got canned and her family made a federal case out of it by going to Barbara Walters and 20/20.

She had an album out in 2006 that flopped miserably. She opened for Cheryl Crowe.

She has had songs on the Legally Blonde, Nancy Drew, The Hills and Bratz (which Paula worked on) soundtracks.

And then there is this:

An insider tells Star that Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski (AI/19 Entertainment execs) have very personal connections to the Idol hopeful, all of which we detail in our can't miss story. How personal? Well, Joanna has referred to Michelle as her "manager" and "best friend," and credited Roger with "helping me get where I am today." Plus, the three of them even lived in the same L.A. apartment complex for several years.

I wonder if they will let us know which 12 are in each group, in advance. It could determine how we might want to vote.
