New Mac user as of Christmas.

Constant Crashes under iwork. Downloading updates as we speak. Safari also chokes on web sites as frequently as IE, which I did not expect with OS X.

I bought this machine so my wife wouldn’t need help with the computer, she’s taking classes at the Apple store but so far, she is still having problems.

She still loves her Mac but I still don’t get it. But then again, I turned off the Vista special effects because I thought they were distracting.

I have never gotten iWork to crash. Safari chokes about once every thirty hours or so and its usually some BS crap-code site that does it.

This from an ex Apple evangelist. I lost faith when they started to turn their Pro line into a consumer product.

I'm sorry you are having such issues. They do NOT represent the experiences of the numerous Mac users I know and support. I think your machine has a hardware problem that is unrelated to OS X. I have never experienced a crash of any iWork application and while there are some web pages that are Windows only, my experience is that 99.9% of webpages are now pretty much Mac compliant.

Have Mrs. Doc take her computer to her Apple class and show them what websites are choking. Let the Geniuses look at the crashes of iWork.

Apple does have its quirks. I never liked Safari so I use Firefox. It works like a charm. I prefer to let the pioneers take the arrows so it helps to keep an eye on MacFixIt before major updates.

Yes, sounds like a hardware problem. I’d check the RAM for sure.

Or send it back and get a new box.

I never tried iWork but as a long-time Mac user I'll agree that Macs aren't perfect.

Firefox is better than Safari and runs great on a Mac.

Also don't work in your admin account. Set up a user account and work in that.

While in your admin account, though, you might want to run disk utility especially if you have just download some updates.

Use Firefox instead of Safari. It is free to download and works so much better.
