First look at Windows 7 beta 1
ZDNET ^ | December 27th, 2008 | Adrian Kingsley-Hughes

I have to thank Santa for leaving me a copy of Windows 7 beta 1 in my stocking for Christmas Day. This beta (build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) should be the first and only beta from Microsoft of Windows 7, and I’m pleased to report that it’s a good one.

**********************SNIP*********************

Judging by the quality of this build, I expect Windows 7 to be released June/July of ‘09. I really can’t see Microsoft dragging out the release a year.

It would be good for microsoft to clean up there mess....but I doubt they will do much more than change the Glossy interface....

They are all about revenue and they get most of that ( I think) from home desktops and simple minded corporate desktops...

Since you seem to be where there are some real demands on an Operating System....I can understand the complaints....

Being an old Main Frame guy and having worked with MVS and the elaborate SMP ordeal....Windows is still a kludge...only thing more so was the abortion of IBM PROFS...and I installed some of that mess....

Without having any more information than you can provide, it’s odd you’re jumping to blaming Vista for a problem few have seen. (Neither I nor anybody I know using Vista has ever experienced such a problem.) Then again, you’ve already blamed Microsoft for not writing drivers for other people’s hardware, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised at all.

They’re catering to the marketplace. Sometimes you can’t educate the public.

Actually, I believe that he uses Mac OS. At least that is what he used to say.

He used to make it a point to mention it. He doesn’t so much anymore, but he probably still uses Macs.

So I buy a new computer with Vista on it. 9 times out of 10, it’s going to crash, right? BTW I don’t do a lot of gaming, just regular internet surfing.

No one else is seeing it?

http://www.google.com/search?q=vista+print+spooler+keeps+crashing&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&safe=active

If MS publishes bad info then turns around and tries to blame other Parties for their idiocy...

Never mind.

There must be something wrong with me. I have three machines, two Dell desktops and one Toshiba laptop running Vista and no problems. What have I done wrong? Based on all the negativity here about Vista I have to be doing something terribly wrong. Whatever should I do?

Nooooo. That's just what the media says. I don't use Vista because I can't afford it, but I have used it on other people's machines and haven't ever seen a problem. Usually it's some sort of virus/malware/rootkit causing the problem; not Vista.

That's because your results are based on actual experience running the OS and not merely perception of how (bad) it's supposed to be.

If they run on 64 bit you would not be happy. At least one crash a day, be it surfing or running software.

Too early to be running 64bit, IMO. It’s not even 2010 yet.

There is still a Circuit City open here in Toledo, Ohio. Maybe I can find a 32-bit with SP1 for under $300.
