I saw him last year at a book signing and he was very cogent and funny.

A couple of months back he was caught on TMZ looking for his car. Apparently he had forgotten where he parked it and was wearing the kind of stuff you would only wear around the house, so it seemed like something was wrong.

But the next day he was joking with reporters and seemed in the best of health.

I don't know what to make of this.

If Falk has Alzeimer’s, my sympathy to him and the family. I’ve seen it up close and personal, and it isn’t a disease for wimps. Plus, Peter Falk has, in the lump, been one of my favorites.

Sad to hear it. My family has 6 seasons of “Colombo” on DVD and we watch the all the time. They’re great! Clean, wholesome and fascinating to watch Falk put the crime together and nab the bad guy. Brilliant writing!

In papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday last week, Catherine Falk said her 81-year-old father can be “deceived into transferring away property” and that the actor should be under her conservatorship to protect his health and assets.

Importantly, it’s now becoming a standard neurological test to use the inability to smell particular odors as an indicator of which disease a person might have.

Alzheimer’s seems to have a list of about a dozen common smells that indicate the disease if the patient is unable to smell them. This helps distinguish Alzheimer’s from other forms of dementia and other medical problems that have mental side effects, like insufficient thyroid hormone, which is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s.

So sad. I absolutely loved Columbo! In fact, I tried yesterday to find it on FanCast - to no avail.

No matter how many times I watch Lt. Columbo, I never cease to find him amusing.

Sad. He is such a terrific actor. My personal favorite:The In-Laws (the original version, with Alan Arkin). Both men were absolutely magnificent - one of the funniest films I've ever seen - and I've seen a lot. One facial expression from Peter Falk is worth a paragraph from most actors. God bless him.

Sad to hear this. Falk’s always been a favorite of mine, and I wouldn’t wish Alzheimer’s on my worst enemy.

BTW, for those that haven’t seen it, Falk did a great little comedy back in the 1970’s called “The In-Laws.” Alan Arkin co-stars, and it is a HOOT! Highly recommended for all Falk and Arkin fans.

Just be sure you don’t rent the 2003 remake with Michael Douglas by mistake (bleagh!)
