Thank you for reminding me of summer. You’re bringing up some warm visual memories.
Where is Cherokee? I’ve been hankering to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway again to North Carolina.
I am not a big fan of winter. Its cold. LOL.**
75 I tell you. It jsut needs to stay 75 year round. :)
The log! There’s always a log across the creek somewhere, you just ahve to know how to find it. LOL We had one of thsoe too. The spring was on the other side and every summer we had to carry water across it when our well went dry!
Belated birthday greetings, Nan. I forgot that you and our grandson share the same birthday. The party begins shortly.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in the neighborhood. Got the outdoor lights up last weekend, mrsdd has been busy decorating the interior.
Now, I’ve discovered I need to tackle that task of finding the bad light bulb on those strings of lights that disturb the power to the entire string. I’ll likely be talking to myself and carrying on a long conversation by the time I’m done but in the end, all the lights will be shining brightly.
Down in the westernmost, bottom part of NC that sticks out over Georgia. Beautiful country—in the summer. LOL The Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful drive.
I just spent an hour trying to get my outdoor lights to work, checking each tiny light..Before I threw out the string..I tried them indoors and they lit up..I then plugged a nite light in the outdoor plug..It’s the outlet that won’t work..groan...not my extension cord, not my light string. Next year I’ll try them indoors before making this mistake again.
It was nice out there, though sunny with no wind and 60.
Happy Birthday to your grandson!
lovely!
Haven’t been all the way down the west part of NC. I think I took a left into Asheville.
The spring! yes, we had the spring at the edge of the same creek, and when my grandparents’ sistern dried up in the summertime, my grandfather would hitch the horses to the wagon, put the wooden rain barrels on there and off we would go to the creek to fill the barrels. We would cover them with clean flour-sack material and put one of the metal rings around the top. The water had to last as long as possible, so none was ever wasted. We had a bath in the galvanized tub once a week whether we needed it or not.
That’s right Dave, I had forgotten that also. Tell him Happy Birthday! I can’t believe that I’ve gotten ahead of some people with the outside lights. I put mine out on my birthday because the weather was bearable. Lights can drive you crazy. I don’t have much patience for finding the culprit when they don’t work. I think I buy at least two new strings every year. All I did this year was string the lighted garland around the front fence and the front door, and put wreaths out on the gate and on the door. I wrapped the yard lamp post with lighted garland and put a big red bow on it. That is the sum total of my decorations outside. I put up the inside tree and got it decorated. I still have another tree to put up and all the Christmas whatnots to put out, etc. I refuse to panic over preparations this year. I’m too old now. I had another birthday. LOL
My brother lives at Balsam Grove.
Nan, I was so glad to find out that you love Texas Pete like I do. There’s nothing better on certain foods, is there? You and I just truly know how to eat~~~LOl~~~!
Yeah girl, we know how to stir up the ole taste buds. If it ain’t hot it ain’t good (unless it’s sweet). LOL
That poem was so wonderful, NNB. Just perfect for Marissa! I know she will love it. Thanks, Bob!
Conor, I always enjoy your posted Yeats poetry. This one was wonderful and I also enjoyed the others you posted today!
L. J. I know where it is, its just I’m not good at giving directions. Its not too far from Gatlinburg. Many, many years ago my hubby and I spent our honeymoon in Gatllinburg, when it was just a quiet little place mostly for honeymooners. We took a trip over to Cherokee at that time. I imagine it has changed immensely also. All of these places are outside of Knoxville. You could pull it up on a website and may find a map. I could probably make the trip over in 2-3 hours from Bristol.
I have some friends, hubby and wife, that we used to run around with all the time. They go to Cherokee occasionally to do a little gambling. I frankly don’t gamble but they have fun doing it. This year they’ve been to Nassau 3 times and I feel sure they must have a lot of gambling there because that is what they love to do. They tell me they never win big or lose big....??? LOL~~~!
I’d never been to Cherokee, or Murphee (sp?) til last year. We took our family vacation in Murphee and ranged out from there. NC is a l-o-n-g state. We live on the coast so we drove to Raleigh—about half way—spent the night at my sister’s, then drove the rest of the way the next day. What a change—going from totally flat sandy land to straight up and down rocks! I’d been on the upper part of the BRP, but never the lower side. It’s really beautiful, but definitely mountainous.
We never used a horse drawn wagon, but we did use the tractor. :)
Galvanized tub—snort. I remember that! And people wonder why I love a hot tub full of water with nothing more than the twist of a wrist!
Must have been close to there when we went to Murphee last summer. Beautiful country.
