That many?

Heck, I’d be surprised if the second civil war (or WWIII) hasn’t happened by the time the 18 year-olds are able to draw social security, much less that it’ll still be a government operation.

I'm sure they think Obama will “fix” it. The 20 to 30 year olds I know are unusually upbeat about things. They are placing a lot of hope in Obama. Reality will catch up with their expectations before too long.

Just like libs that I know of who simply couldn;t explain in simple terms global warming yet they advocate it..kids of today can’t grasp the concept of Social Security. They think Social Security is the new thrash band from L.A.

I am going to go on a rant for a little bit here:

I am 27 - I’m a female as well.

I have to sit and listen to “friends” that go on and on about how they are so supportive of Obama and we should all get behind this guy. These people were all scared of Palin because she is “RELIGIOUS” I asked them about Obama’s record and the other candidate’s records. I asked them about Obama’s experience and how much time he has had working for the government or at least in the senate. I ask them about the policies that they like of his and the only constant in all of this is that they hate George Bush and they are afraid of religious people - but no ANSWERS to any of the actual questions.

Young people are morons - I would say even until about 32ish. My generation is full of the laziest, ridiculously complacent and selfish people that I have ever seen and been around. They have no concept of what “hard times” really means. They just jump on the latest gadget, the latest trend, the coolest person’s bandwagon and yes this year they voted American Idol style for the “coolest” guy not the most qualified. They jumped onto the hate Bush band wagon but they live in a delusional idealistic world where everyone should poop out unicorns and gumdrops but don’t understand the dark reality of the world. They trust everything that the media says and just don’t get the fact that it is all spun and that sound bytes are taken out of context all the time as well as the fact that interviews get edited and sabotaged.

If things don’t hit their pockets/wallets then they don’t have any idea what is going on outside their self-centered spherical little world and expect things to fall into their laps. My generation is full of the most spoiled egomaniacs that believe when they get out of college they are OWED. It reminds me of living in the inner city of Baltimore again - where I experienced racism - I won’t call it reverse because it’s racism either way - people want their 40 acres and a mule as they say it. Kids expect to make 80K when they get out of school - it’s incredible! Although I don’t want my country to go through hard times that it can’t recover from, I’m honestly torn because I almost feel it necessary so that my generation wakes the hell up and they prob. need to be hit in the head w/ a 2x4 in order to do this!

Thank you that’s my .02!

“Heck, I’d be surprised if the second civil war (or WWIII) hasn’t happened by the time the 18 year-olds are able to draw social security, much less that it’ll still be a government operation.”

A civil war is only an option if the other side — the people’s side — has guns.

I understand that bho’s AG, Eric Holder, believes that gun ownership should be restricted because the Second Amendment refers to a “collective right”, not an individual right.

What, pray tell, is a “collective right”?

Yes they are dumb.

We are having to let go of the SATS so they may get into schools.

They are the weakest generation.

Thanks for that. I could have written the same thing myself. I tried talking to my peers and relatives my age this election season, but it was like banging my head on a wall. Yaddity yaddity.. Sarah Palin’s stupid... she’s a religious nut.. Bush economy... its not fair the rich have so much let’s tax them... whine why can’t the government give me healthcare... First black president!... Obama is young and refreshing and change and cares about us young people! It’s depressing that amount of sheer ignorance - particularly on economic matters, whining, and groupthink. Some of the kids I know who used to think for themselves now all say the same tripe. Well, I at least take comfort in the fact that kids like us will be ok whatever happens because we take responsibility for ourselves and don’t need some political messiah to give our lives meaning. And of course, I can’t wait for when reality sets in and these kids realize “the emperor has no clothes.” Our generation definitely needs a harsh dose of reality.

I am ashamed of a large portion of my generation. Lazy, unmotivated, and uninspired only scratch the surface. From two people at a part time job that I work at on the weekends, I was able to learn from one fellow 27 year old that I work with that we only have 48 states, and a 26 year old that countered with “no way, we have 52, Alaska and Hawaii!” They can tell you the best games to buy for the PS3, though. How do you reach people like that? Both of these guys voted, too (For whom should be obvious)!

What was the question, anyway?

I am confident in the Social Security System.

I have been paying into it since I was 14, and I remain confident after all these decades that the money I paid in will never be paid back, that what is paid back will be in an inflated currency worth a fraction of what the currency I paid in was.

I am further confident that I have been screwed.

That means I am fairly confident in the system, too, just in a different and eminently more cynical way.
