Best online bulk ammo sales?

Posted on 11/15/2008 7:14:07 PM PST by roostercogburn

Looking for the best place to buy bulk ammo from. Obviously want best price, but would like experienced buyers to recommend which to possibly stay away from due to poor quality. Years back bought bulk at a gunshow and had all kinds of problems. These were .357 SIG and 9mm rounds.

By and large, Able's Ammo usually has the best prices and the most choices.

On small orders, Cheaper Than Dirt will sometimes come in at a lower price than Able's, but once you start purchasing in bulk, the Able's discounts will kick in.

Dittos on Wally-World. I pick up a couple 20 rd boxes of .223 every time I’m in there.

depends on how much of a mess you want to clean up...

You also need to be concerned with the layout of your home. You don't want to penetrate the walls if your family is in the next room...

Try gun-deals.com for a listing of ammo prices that is updated regularly. I've had good luck finding surplus 7.62x39 that way.

Good luck!

Ironically, the instructor at my CCW certification class today recommended buying your ammo from Wal-Mart. Best prices around since they buy directly from the manufacturer, and ammo’s about the only thing in the store still made in the USA.

I was told just the opposite...when I asked why...being if I bought example Remington brand I'm getting a good deal right
He told me Ahha ...most ammo manufacturers sell wal-mart seconds or ammo that is has not gone through QC..then he asked me out of the ammo I bought from Wal-Mart how many miss-fired ...plenty

I really don't know

Walmart seems to have the best prices around here(Natchitoches,LA) right now. I’ve got to get out of this place. Win .22lr bulk pack 500 rnds $12.00, .223 Federal 100 rnd packs $40.00.

Cabelas gave me some good deals years ago, shipping will kill you on the heavier components nowadays, in all respects this late in the game Wallyworld just may save America.

Nah, I’m down in GA right now. I don’t suppose they take orders and ship?

BTW, how does that work? Is it similar to guns where you can buy online but it has to be shipped to a gun shop? I know we always treat ammo as akin to hazmat in the military whenever we ship it, so I’m guessing it’s the same in the civilian world.

I've bought from Cheaper than Dirt before. My local Gander Mountain sometimes has some good prices too, surprisingly enough.

If you're wanting to avoid poor quality, just buy a decent name brand. For .223, for example, you can get Winchester for pretty cheap and it shoots well. Avoid steel case ammunition.

I agree http://www.gun-deals.com/ammo.php is a great way to research prices, and they have shipping estimation feature which works well.

Your best bet for the Garand is military surplus ammo from the CMP. Link

I've read that the op rod can be damaged by firing some commercial 30-06 loads from a Garand. That and you can't beat the CMP price.

For home defense, lead bb shot, 3” magnum if your gun is chambered for it. That might require hand loading since most waterfowl hunting in North America is with steel shot these days.
