Hi All Freepers! I am a new Freeper---been here to just read news and posts for over a year and now am motivated to do something after the disappointing loss on last Tuesday. Below is where I stand politically and my two cents where the GOP needs to move to for success---I do NOT endorse scrapping the GOP for a new party. I endorse gaining control of the GOP from the grass roots with some cosmetic/PR changes:
I voted for McCain-Palin although Im not a Republican. I'm now strongly considering formally joining the GOP.
As of now I support Sarah Palin to run in 2012.
My thoughts on some Public Relation changes (Not Necessarily Changes in Principles):
1 Drop the formal opposition to Affirmative Action : This mutes the charge of historical opposition/indifference to civil rights. The opposition to AA/Quotas can remain in principle.
2 Drop the formal opposition to Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants: Focus on securing the borders. The status of the 20 million or so illegal immigrants is now more or less an Obama/Democrat problem and has been essentially a lost issue for the GOP. We in opposition to Obama will need to cut into his Hispanic support in 2012 in order to defeat him.
3 Drop formal opposition to Environmentalism. Yes, I know that environmental extremist are nuts, but the GOP must recognize when a battle is probably lost and not waste precious political capital on what I consider minor issues (especially when there will be major battles to be fought over major issues). Remember this is just a formal dropping of an issue, but not the issue itself in principle.
4 Focus on middle class, middle class, middle class!
5 Focus on domestic/economic/education issues. Less on foreign policy. To be sure there will certainly be new issues of both to tackle in 12, but I can guarantee with the failed economic policies put in place by The Obama administration---domestic policies will again be front and center.
6 Build bridges to unions/working class. Historically Unions and the GOP have been arch-enemies. But the alliance between big business and the GOP in decline. Big Business seem to have found a new love REDs---Rich Elite Democrats. We need to counter this with courting some of there core constituencies. This may have already have begun in West Virginia and among many Hillary Clinton Dems.
7 Continue with strong opposition to Gay marriage, Abortion and Adult Euthanasia.
8 Continue with strong opposition to Islamic Extremism, and Socialistic Liberal Extremism.
9 Continue to be strong on crime, the death penalty and gun ownership rights.
Sorry for what you guys call a Vanity but these were just some of my post-election observations as a right of center African American. Tell me what all you Freepers think!
If you fell asleep during the first minute of the video it shows a severe lack of intellectual curiosity.
Saying “I don’t see where I’m advocating Socialist” to me when I accused you of no such thing shows a lack of either reading comprehension or organizational skills.
Take the time to watch the video and educate yourself.
I’m very well educated but I’m not sitting through some video you posted. Splice it and get to the point. If you are some intellectual superior then politically consult your party of choice all the way to victory. Otherwise we can just post videos for everyone to view to make our points. In other words don’t let a video clip make your points for you——now that’s intellectually lazy.
Or you could be like this guy.
Welcome to FR.
BTW, it's called a tartan.
Thanks! I now remember him calling it that. What’s the name of that litte knife that is carried in either the belt or the boot-—he had one of those also specially crafted.
BTW, if anyone is wondering about the moniker “Obushma”, it’s a conjuction of Obama+Bush. All through the election I got tired of hearing the left with “McBush” and “McLame” and all that nonsense. So when they ask us in 2012 if we are better off than we were 4yrs ago and do we want change we can all connect Obama to Bush and call him Obushma!
Good Lord, that's just so... deep, Obie. Between your reply and your original post I can see that you don't like to think all that much.
I don't need the Constitution Party as much as you need to read the actual Constitution. Go back to the Democrats. It's where you're really comfortable. We're busy rebuilding the Republican party as a Conservative party, and there is no way somebody with your ideas is going to be helpful.
Go away little troll Obie.
I friggen HATE newby vanities. I vote that you be zotted for your dumb contribution to FR.
... if you haven’t been zotted already.
Define “very well educated.”
My bet is that you’re an Obama liberal. And that you won’t last the night.
Hey Obushma! Welcome to FR.
But I have to tell you this: I could give a fig what the color of your skin is. I’m a Jew and I’ve found nothing but friendship here. If I get flamed, it’s for my thoughts and words, not for my religion.
If you count yourself as a Constitutional Conservative, you’ll be right at home. ;-)
(And don’t think you’re the first AA here! lol!)
Get ready to argue. The people will test your limits. They’ll force you to think and to defend your positions. I’ve been FReeping for 9 years and they still force me to be my intellectual best, every day. (Can’t count the times I’ve admitted I’m wrong! lol!)
So have FUN with it.
Today’s a good day to be an American! :-D
PS: I do like your ideas!
Nope. We're either all equal or not. You can't have it both ways.
2 Drop the formal opposition to Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants: Focus on securing the borders. We in opposition to Obama will need to cut into his Hispanic support in 2012 in order to defeat him.
You have a good point, but you're thinking that we can't do two things at the same time. Yes, we can fight amnesty and fight for a fence.
As far as I've noticed, this idea has already been picked up by the right. I don't hear a lot of protests. If anything we need to fight this point harder.
4 Focus on middle class, middle class, middle class!
OK. I'm going to say it. I *AM* MIDDLE CLASS. SCREW THE MIDDLE CLASS. I'M 38 AND I WANT TO REACH HIGHER!
5 Focus on domestic/economic/education issues. Less on foreign policy. To be sure there will certainly be new issues of both to tackle in 12, but I can guarantee with the failed economic policies put in place by The Obama administration---domestic policies will again be front and center.
Bingo. You did hit the nail on the head with this one.
6 Build bridges to unions/working class. Historically Unions and the GOP have been arch-enemies. But the alliance between big business and the GOP in decline. Not going to comment on this one. I don't know enough on the subject... except that coal union leaders are insane or completely corrupt.
7 Continue with strong opposition to Gay marriage, Abortion and Adult Euthanasia.
8 Continue with strong opposition to Islamic Extremism, and Socialistic Liberal Extremism.
9 Continue to be strong on crime, the death penalty and gun ownership rights.
Yup, yup, yup.
Excellent post and Welcome to Free Republic.
Thanks for the welcome! I respect all opinions. I know there are “political” veterans here and I respect their vast comprehension of the battles we face against the Left. These will be monumentous battles and we, right of center, will have to find new techniques and strategies to fight these battles. I enjoy the open dialogue here at the FREErepublic.
Another one.
~OK. I’m going to say it. I *AM* MIDDLE CLASS. SCREW THE MIDDLE CLASS. I’M 38 AND I WANT TO REACH HIGHER!~
My household income puts me at slightly higher than “Middle Class”....according to Democrat calculations. If one reads carefully my suggestions are all marketing/packaging of the message. Not a discarding of the principles.
An example of what I mean by this is the association the GOP has had with Big Business has hurt. The association with Small Business has not. Zero in and pound away at the positive association and let the other fade to the background.
Sarah and Todd Palin appeals to the Middle Class (whatever that means to someone). Go with that, market that appeal, pound away at it.
So the GOP is anti-affirmative action-—I certainly don’t care. But to millions of minorities it’s a huge roadblock to coming out of the “political right of center closet”. Believe me I know. Why allow that to be what you’re known for, when it’s not even on the political radar any longer.
Some one responded to my original post that the FreeRepublic was not representative of Republican Party. I respect that fact. And none of my suggestions will be implemented any way, but I know that the GOP will go through some sort of transformation. I’m wondering where we can find common ground to “grow” the right to center.....
cripple-creek
Sounds like a great tag line.
He said focus ONLY on middle class, and didn't specify what he'd do with the folks who create the jobs in this country. I'm in the middle class, but his #4 sounds a bit too much like Obama to me. Besides, Focus on the middle class for what? Tax hikes? Tax cuts? He didn't say.
I’ll check my lineage. Find out what part of Africa my ancestry was confiscated from and get back with ya. By the way your favorite African- American is also a borderline political socialist-—you can do better-—but she is hot though.............
You mean you weren't born in Africa???? Then you are NOT African-American.
If thats the case, I request to now be referred to as European-German-American since my ancestors lived in those parts 300 years ago.
“”””Find out what part of Africa my ancestry was confiscated from..””””
I sense a little bitterness in that. You are free to go back anytime you want. I hear you can have all the opportunity and quality of life that you currently enjoy in the worker's paradise of Ethiopia.
“”””she is hot””””
Can't argue with you there. She is one hot Chavez-loving commie. But tell me.... if she were to rob a bank.... would the police issue an APB stating: “be on the lookout for a 6 foot tall African-American female”???
#2: Securing the borders is the lesser half of solving the illegal immigration problem. The greater half is making crime (illegal immigration and hiring illegal aliens) not pay. Do that, and they'll deport themselves.
#3 I'd rather subvert the eco-freak issue. Nukes emit no greenhouse gases.
#5 OK but ... there are bad guys in the world, and they mean to harm us. Ignoring them won't make them go away.
